DH is having some work done on the truck so he has a rental car. He was on his way home last night when one of the hubcaps flew off. He didn't hit anything, didn't hit a pothole...nothing. Just cruising down the road.
Lo and behold, there's a huge dent in the rim. The hubcap covered it up, so there was no way to know about it when they were doing the pre-rental checklist this morning. Based on the couple of rims I've done a number on, there's no way it can be bent back. There's a very slow air leak in the tire also.
We can't get the hubcap back on. It appears, based on the damage to the hubcap clips, that someone put a good bit of effort into rigging it up to stay.
We're going to be stuck paying, aren't we? This is almost as bad as 2 summers ago when someone put a trailer hitch through our rental car bumper and didn't leave a note. Goodbye, $500.
All I know (well, from what I could gather between the cussing at 4am) is that it's on his personal Capital One credit card. We have USAA for car insurance and it covers the rental.
I would play it with the rental company that you expect them to cover it, just in case they will.
That's what I told DH. I told him to show them the damage to the hubcap and explain what happened. DH thinks it won't work; but I think it's worth a shot. I also thought about playing the safety angle since he was on a higher speed road when it came off, it could've done damage to other cars.
Y'all have the absolute worst luck with cars. I'm sorry, and I really hope the rental co pays up!

No kidding. While I was out for a run this morning I was trying to figure out if logistically we could get away without never having a rental car again. Sadly, with out of state family, I'm guessing this isn't feasible.
