Im searching for a spring full. I was considering the Long Island marathon...but its the week after the NJ/long branch half, which im already registered for and am gonna try to pr.
Bad idea, right? (I know it is, just need affirmation lol)

I agree with ebeth. FWIW, the races that I really *try* at and give maximal effort almost always require at least a week of serious rest. I wouldn't have been in any shape to run a marathon a week after actually racing for a PR in a half.
I'm originally from North Jersey, so I have a lot of east coast races on my dream list
My initial thought was Pocono Marathon, but that might still be too close to NJ Half.
Oh really? Where? Im in bergen county.
I saw that on marathin guide and just assumed it would be hilly, i guess i should read? Its certainly not too far...ill check it out, thanks. If its 2 weeks out it might be ok. Anything from midmay to midjune, though memorial day weekend is ideal.

It's all downhill. Could be worth looking into.
I'm from Rahway, in Union County. I ran the NJ full, last year. I'm heading out tomorrow morning to visit my sister in NYC and my aunt in Edison.
I have no idea about upstate NY geography and how far everything is. I thought, hmmm NY, must be close to NJ!
lol, upstate NY is actually very large (and ill-defined). It's big enough that it really has an upstate, central, western, and downstate, and also a southern tier, but this depends on who you ask, and is the subject of significant debate. There are also other, smaller geographic appellations that I'm missing. I've lived in upstate and central, but have an affection for the Dar Williams song called "Southern California Wants to Be Western NY."
I live in Albany, and I'd say going to Boston, i.e. driving the entire width of Massachusetts, is about as far east as Syracuse is west of us (2-3 hours). That only gets you halfway to Buffalo!

Ha so true. I am from "upstate new york" also, but only when im talking to people who define that as anything north of the bronx lol

I'm in the Rochester area and love it when I tell people I'm from NYS and about 7 hours from NYC- it doesn't compute! I've never done the Buffalo marathon, but have heard good things- running temps that time of year are good here also. If you were able to take your time driving home, I will also pimp out the Finger Lakes region for great wineries and scenic towns to visit on your way home.

LOL... yeah, pretty much everyone I know from NY is from the NYC area, so they consider anything in NY State other than NYC to be "Upstate." It's all lumped together.
