H is just about 2/3 of the way through his training. We found out yesterday where the available postings are located and how many positions are available. -Ontario (1) -Nova Scotia (1) -Newfoundland (2) -Manitoba (4) -Saskatchewan (5) -British Columbia (7) -Alberta (9)
We had to rank our choices and H will meet with an advisor next week to talk about our family needs. Our ranking went like this: ON, NS, Alb., Nfld., BC, Sask., Man.
The position in Ontario is likely a highly specialized one in Ottawa so it is unlikely that we will be sent there although that would be awesome!
Because of the complications with baby L's delivery and his unclear prognosis, we have lots of documentation from his paediatrician, neurologist, and my midwife stating that we need to be placed within reasonable distance from a paediatric neurologist and a hospital with a NICU so I hope that will keep us out of remote fly in communities in the far north.
This whole process has been such a long time coming. It's crazy to think that in just 9 weeks, we will be moving to some yet to be determined location. It's both so exciting and nerve wracking!
Just for fun, where would you want to be posted if you could go anywhere in Canada?

Oh and there are 15 guys in his troop from lower mainland BC and they all want to go back there. With only 7 open spots, at least half of them are going to be very disappointed!
BC, but housing is obscenely expensive and traffic is really ugly in Vancouver.
I live about 70 miles from Vancouver, and we go there regularly to visit family. We plan out travel there carefully to try o avoid the worst of it.
Yes, and that is why it was so far down on our list. It's nuts that an RCMP officer earns the same salary whether posted to rural Nova Scotia or lower mainland BC. The cost of living is dramatically different.
Any idea where in Alberta the postings are? Small town Alberta can be hit or miss.
Anywhere in Canada, I'd choose interior bc, kelowna area probably.
No, but since there are so many open positions there we are hoping that at least a couple are closeish to Edmonton or Calgary since both cities have Children's hospitals.
Just chiming in to say I didn't know something was amiss with your little one! Hope things will mend for him soon!
Thanks! Since he had such a rough start to life, he has hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. He's doing well now and prognosis is good, it's just that we don't know for certain how he will develop as he gets older and he requires close monitoring.

Oh my goodness! I didn't know there was anything amiss! I am presuming he was really preemie? Glad he is doing well, and I hope he continues to kick butt!

I'll cross my fingers you get either ns or an Edmonton or Calgary suburb then.

i mean, BC and alberta would be amazing, but the COL? no thanks. (which is lol b/c i live in toronto, but at least with toronto, you are the centre of the world, right? and shopping).
i would probably pick NS or NL as my top. manitoba and saskatchewan would for sure be awful. lol
Exactly! I'm really hoping for NS. Nfld. would be cool too but it's crazy expensive to get back to Ontario from there and there is no children's hospital for L.

I'd go BC or Alberta, as long as I was close to the Rockies. Mountains! My BFF is living in Canmore right now and her instagram feed makes me so jealous. Well. Except that they've had snow already, lol. It's still 85 here.
Well obviously I think BC. Lol. Do you know which cities are an option? Vancouver doesn't have RCMP they have City Police and the cost of living is much more reasonable in surrounding lower mainland cities anyways.

Nope. We are assigned a province next week but it's still 3 or 4 weeks before we find out what detachment.

Nope, not a preemie. 9 days overdue actually! Somehow I lost all of my amniotic fluid (no one really knows how as my water never broke) and he pooped in utero as he was in distress. He aspirated on his meconium and without the amniotic fluid to dilute the meconium, he was basically choking on tar and it filled his lungs. He was without oxygen for an indeterminate amount of time at birth (there have been conflicting reports) so he may have some brain damage. So far everything looks good though so we are cautiously optomistic.
