Yesterday was J's birthday. And it was awesome. Awesomeness provided by meeee. And livingsocial, really.
On Monday night we went to a rooftop restaurant by the queensborough bridge. It has the most amazing views of the NYC skyline. We had a livingsocial that took 80 dollars off the top of the bill (which amounted to the pitcher of sangria we shared) And some pretty awesome food, too
Then Tuesday spent the day at Spa Castle in Flushing. Oh my god. It was AMAZING. So many pools at so many different temperatures with jets that focused on different areas of the body. There was a rooftop pool, indoor saunas, and an pool bar. And an entire floor dedicated to massages and treatments. It was gorgeous and decadent. And only 20 dollars admission thanks to livingsocial. Though regular admission is only 35 dollars and includes all the saunas and pools - the massages and treatments are extra.
After that we went home and cut his birthday cake. Chocolate peanutbuttercup!
And then we went into the city to FAO Schwartz. This is where the magic happened.
J has been saying he wanted a muppet - and at FAO Schwartz you can make your own muppet for like 100 bucks. I told him in like April I'd get him one for his birthday. Then he forgot about me saying it. So Monday at dinner I told him we'd go make a muppet! We get to the you store a half hour before closing and he's all excited. He goes to the muppet girl, "don't close yet! We're going to make a muppet for my birthday!!" And the girl dismisses him and says really rudely "we close an hour before the store. We're not making any muppets now."
And J was visibly sad, the adorable man child he is. We go outside to the seating area in the plaza and sit down, trying to regroup and figure out how not to let this ruin the night. And in that time I looked at the FAO Schwartz website, and nowhere does it say about the muppet thing closing an hour early. If it had, it would have been our bad, and we could have come back another day. But there were no hours posted on the website, or in the store for that matter, and the cashier did not tell us when we could come back or provide any alternatives.
I stewed for a minute, then got back up and went inside to find a manager. I laid all of that out for her, and how FAO is all about customer service and as a well established, famous institution, I expected better and not to be dismissed, but provided with alternatives or a solution. The manager not only agreed, but let J make his puppet AND will have it messengered to the house for free!
The best part? she is going to give us a guided your before store opening with an FAO Toy Soldier and a continental breakfast at the Big Piano. AMAZING.
