I think in every molar. Back in the day, a lot of dentists would drill & fill for the insurance money whether you really had a cavity or not. I don't think that's the case as much anymore.
I was 10 the first time I went to the dentist and had 1 cavity. The second was because that tooth was capped with a metal bracket when I had braces and the dentist said it would have been impossible for me to clean it properly anyway.

Never had any until I was in my mid-20s and avoided going to the dentist for a while. :/ Bam, I needed at least 5, all in molars.
I had a root canal at age 9 and another on the same tooth at age 12, and finally had the tooth pulled and replaced with an implant when I was about 25/26.

Can I ask what your experience was like with getting the implant? I have a broken tooth that needs to be extracted and replaced with an implant and the thought of it makes me want to vomit.

prettyinpearls Which tooth? Could you do a three unit bridge instead? Cheaper and much, much less invasive than an implant.

Ugh. So many. I had the same dentist all my life, and I was all smug about never having had a cavity. Then when I was 24, I had tooth pain while he was on vacation, and I had to see a different practice. Turns out, I had 9 cavities, 5 of which were so deep that they required root canals and crowns.

It's the 3rd from the back on the top. My dentist said I have really good bone structure and that's why he suggests an implant. He's an amazing dentist and I do trust his judgment. There can be some shady ones out there!

I've had my wisdom teeth out, and I'd say that was worse than the implant. My theory is that the wisdom teeth came out and then the empty sockets have to fill with... stuff, I guess, whereas with the implant they pull the tooth, then replace it with something vaguely tooth-shaped in the same spot. They gave me vicodin and prescription motrin, and I think I used the vicodin once or twice (cause why not), but within a few days, it really felt fine. I just had to be really careful about chewing. It's a tooth that's next to my front tooth, so they put a temp crown on it right away, and you're really not supposed to put any pressure on it for several weeks, so no chewing or biting on that side of my mouth.
Now, since then, I've lost some bone and had a bone graft and a gum graft in that area. BUT the entire point of getting an implant vs. a bridge is that the implant is supposed to anchor the bone in that area, so it's actually less likely the bone will recede.
It's not pleasant. It's about as fun as a root canal, but it's not the worst thing I've ever done. Actually, the bone graft was pretty bad from a dental surgery stand point, but it could be because my new periodontist is a little... not gentle.

No doubt! I hope he gives the disclosures on implants failing and such. IDK. My mom has one and absolutely hates it. She's had it for years and it still gives her pain/problems. She can hardly chew on that side of the mouth. She really wishes she had done the bridge.
I developed a phobia of the dentist and didn't see one for 5+ years until last fall. I was shocked that I didn't need any fillings or a root canal. The dentist said I needed to thank my parents because genetics were the only explanation as to why my teeth weren't a total mess.
