My H's boss invited us to his son's birthday party. I have no idea what to get him. I have never met the kid, no clue what his interests are, etc.
All I know about him is that his dad is a partner in a law firm, his mom is a SAHM with a full-time live-in nanny but she is currently lobbying for a second nanny, and that the kid has 4 passports. So uh, yeah, I think he probably already has everything he wants.
My default gift for everyone is books but I don't know what kind of books 4 year olds like.

Kids' books about traveling? Honestly, I probably wouldn't even go. It's odd to invite somebody to a kid's birthday party when they've never even met the kid.

LOL, think he's made it 4 years without a copy of "Oh The Places You'll Go"?
I think they invited us to be nice. We are new in town and don't have many friends with kids and his boss knows that. I was kind of excited until I remembered I'd have to buy a gift haha.

Do you have their other book Food for Thought? That one is available in HK, Fast Food isn't I have time to have stuff shipped, just wondering if Food for Thought might be equally awesome.
I cannot rave about this book enough. It's awesome.

A book with pop-ups? My KG kids go bananas for that stuff. Metro Books at Elements has a great kids section and it's not designed like a dollhouse.
Will going to Elements on a weekend make me want to die? Like on the scale from Pacific Place (mild anxiety) to Harbour City (less enjoyable than waterboarding) where does Elements fall?
My DS is 4.5 and has been playing with the regular little Legos for almost a year, so I disagree with the Duplos if you go the Lego route. The superhero sets are fun. I'd rather buy something he can grow into than something he'll outgrow in a month.
My DS LOVES to build and this is the rage in our house right now:

Your scale is great! No, I find that Elements is very chill. I would put it in the same category as Pacific Place.
Is a travel journal for kids super lame? I suppose he is early for writing. That's a toughie. Maybe they don't Dr. Seuss obsess in Hong King like they do in the states.
I think this is an awesome idea. It would need a lot of help from mom, or in this case, one of the nannies. But the kid could cut pictures out of brochures or use hard copies of their travel photos and glue them in. But these are the skills a 4 year old would be practicing in school. Brilliant really.
