I liked it too. Octavia Spencer was great, and I really like the coma boy. I will watch for a few more week at least. DH wasnt as impressed, but he is a man with robot feelings. lol
I read an article from a chronically ill teenager, and she was very fierce in her opinion about not watching the show. She had seen an advance screening of the pilot and was disgusted at how unbelievably inaccurate it was, and how it essentially glamorizes pediatric illnesses and hospitals.
That said, I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. IDK.

I could understand that. I mean I highly doubt hospitals let pediatric patients completely have these huge rooms to themselves with designer furniture and let them paint the walls or whatever.

This is what my husband said as well. No hospital will let you do that.... and the kid that showed up from Mexico, with no parents or even a guardian. I just don't see that stuff happening. But other than the unrealistic stuff, I still enjoyed the show itself. I do like the concept that when kids are that sick, they do have an outlet, and they do go to school while in treatment, so that stuff I agreed with anyways.

Plus, lets be honest. Who would really want to watch a show about the pediatric unit in a hospital. I visited one when my friend son had surgery and I pretty much left the place in tears.

agreed. and I also think that it is nice to see that even when kids are sick, they an still form friendships and it isn't always portrayed as a pity party. I work at a hospital that is attached to a Children's Hospital. It isn't always doom and gloom over there.... So it shouldn't be on TV either.

I agree with this. My DS was in the hospital for over 5 months on the oncology floor and believe me you could get away with murder. It is a sad place in the sense of what is happening to these poor kids but it is not a sad place to be in. They had big wheel races in the halls, movie nights, bingo nights, a dedicated playroom for the immunosuppressed kids, and the coolest nurses on earth. DS is into superheroes like crazy and he would pretend to be Spiderman and fake web the nurses and they would drop to the floor or hide and jump out at him. He made a couple of very close friends we still talk to and visit with. It may just be his children's hospital but it was never my experience in a year of treatment and over 5 months continuously staying at one point that it is not a place of doom and gloom. Even at the sickest of times they still were positive and would make allowances for anything. We couldn't paint but we covered almost every surface in posters and signs, etc. His room was a happy place to be for him just like at home!
They were definitely some unrealistic things on the show but not totally out of the realm considering our experience!
BF is an EMT so he watches all the shows that are remotely about medicine. I teased him that he was just waiting for them to start the medical talk so he could point out the inaccuracies. He told me to stop knowing him so well, lol.
