I have a very old-fashioned name which people constantly either misspell or mispronounce as a more common, modern version of the name. It. drives. me. crazy, but only slightly crazier than I was driven when a new friend told me that her sister had my name with an extra "n" at the end. Their mother thought it was the "right" way to spell it because if you used the second syllable of our name as a stand-alone name (which you could) you would spell it with two n's. BUT THAT'S NOT HOW THE FULL NAME IS SUPPOSED TO BE SPELLED!
(and I'm being deliberately vague about what my name is because it's a small world and I've said some stuff recently that could easily identify me to someone IRL if I posted my very uncommon first name here)
There aren't too many variations of Lauren, but people who say "Lor-in" get my stAnk eye
It's regional! But really, I think it is. I always liked the name Maura for a girl, but if we had a girl when we lived in MA I wouldn't have done it because I couldn't handle people calling her Mara.
I do. My nickname is Katy, I notice when people spell it with a -y (the WRONG WAY) and not an -ie.
FTFY
I am an -ie which I always assumed was more common (never met anyone in real life that uses a y and there was a TON of Katies growing up) but when people write my name they put a y or i instead of an ie more often then not.
There are about one million ways to spell my nickname - Mickey, Mickie, Micki, Micky, Mikki. Okay maybe only five ways. But I've only ever met a couple people who have the name anyway. That damn mouse though.

I applaud anyone who makes even a half decent attempt at spelling or pronouncing my name.
I don't suppose you would pm me your name so I can judge accordingly?
No one ever gets my name right. My Mom pronounced it different than it's spelled. I answer to so many versions. I don't even bother to correct people unless they are so far off the mark.

I prefer the way my parents spelled my name to it's French version.
The way people try to spell my name? All over the map. It kind of surprises me every time, too, because it's a pretty well known name thanks to Shakespeare. They never fail to bust out a Romeo and Juliet joke but they can't get close to spelling it correctly.
People spell it without the e all the damn time and it drives me INSANE.
Earlier this week, a project manager at work emailed me 12 times (not kidding), used my name in all of them and spelled it Brook every fucking time. I was raging by 11:30am that day. lol
