Hi all! I had a sonogram yesterday at 12 weeks 1 day. I asked the tech if she had any clue as to what the gender of the baby is. She said she thinks boy, but not buy clothes. Just curious if anybody had any experience with this? Was a guess at 12 weeks accurate for you?
I didn't even think to ask at 12 weeks, my NT scan was a bit of a mess because they'd messed up the schedule and I was 30 min late, through no fault of my own. I was very flustered.
Yes, we had an NT Scan at 12 weeks the tech said it looked like we were having a girl based on the tubercle angle (someone here said their mom was an US tech and that it was only 50/50 accuracy at that point, but everything I've read on it seems to indicate that it is higher than that. It's not 100%, but definitely higher than 50%)

Hello!
They guessed on ours @ 12 weeks and said it might be a boy. We found out it was a girl at the a/s @ 19 weeks. 12 weeks is definitely not 100%, but it's fun to guess!
ETA: My doctor did the first u/s, but the tech did the official one @19 weeks.
I didn't ask the tech, but I looked at my pictures from the NT scan and the "angle of the dangle" said boy. It was correct when we had our anatomy scan at 19 weeks

My scan at 11w3d was very blurry (she said baby was way in the back of my uterus). She got the measurements for the NT scan and I didn't even ask. They drew blood that same day for the Panorama test and found out 10 days later it's a boy.
For my 1st I asked and the tech "guessed" it was a boy and she was right confirmed at 20 weeks. This time I didn't ask since we are still on the fence about team green.
My mom does ultrasounds for a living. She did an ultrasound on me at 11 weeks. At 11 weeks the odds are only 50/50, and going by the angle of the dangle it looked like it was going to be a girl (this was a guess from all her coworkers as well).
I came back at 14 weeks and it was clearly NOT a girl. In fact this little guy loves showing off his goods at every ultrasound, just to let us know he's really a boy, hahaha.
That being said, my mom said at 12 weeks it should be more clear and while not 100% they are usually pretty accurate with their guesses provided they get a shot between the legs (not just the angle of the dangle shot).

I asked yesterday and she laughed and said no. Drat!
Do normal 1st trimester screenings do gender now, or only if you order special ones? I got the blood work for the normal 3 disorders that most get done. I didn't want to ask and seem shallow (since genetic disorders are obviously more important than gender). But I do want to know!

Mine didn't guess at all but my u/s at 12 weeks was because of spotting, not a NT scan. Based on the heart rate they originally guessed girl, but then baby calmed down a bit and now they think boy. I should look up statistics on how accurate guesses based on heart rate are!

No, it's a special genetic test that may or may not be covered by your insurance. The standard 1st trimester screen usually checks for Down's Syndrome and Trisomy 18, I believe.

The old wives' tale about heart rate has been wrong for both of my boys. They've always had sky-high HRs in first tri, which a few people swear up and down means girl. Nope. I just have energetic boys, apparently.

@brie hmm interesting! I've heard higher is girl and lower is boy, and according to one thing I read it said over 140 was girl, and it was just barely above that at my last appointment! It's fun to speculate
The tech said she was pretty sure it was a boy but did the 80/20, don't paint the nursery spiel. The MFM doctor came in and said she was 97% sure. It was confirmed at the a/s Good thing too because I bought boy stuff!

My cousin was just telling me when she had her 12 week scan with her twins, the tech told her that at least one was a boy. She was right! Boy/girl twins.
The tech didn't venture a guess at the NT scan, and I didn't ask. The heart rate theory said girl because it was high each time, but this little guy is definitely a boy.
