Has anyone had one show up at their 20 week u/s? They told me everything looked perfect and then said today that they reviewed it again and saw a small cystic area in the brain. I'm trying not to lose it.
I don't have any personal information, but I'm a good googler and I have this for you, from what I can tell Ventricular Cyst = Choroid Plexus Cyst.
What is a Choroid Plexus Cyst? The choroid plexus is an area of the brain that is not involved thinking or personality. Rather, the choroid plexus makes a fluid that protects and nourishes the brain and spinal cord. When a fluid-filled space is seen in the choroid plexus during an ultrasound, it is called a choroid plexus cyst (CPC). “We don’t know why, but between 1 and 3 percent of all fetuses will manifest a CPC at 16 to 24 weeks of pregnancy,” says Dr. Roy A. Filly, a Professor of Radiology and of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and Chief of the Section of Diagnostic Sonography at University of California, San Francisco. CPCs can be found either on one side of the brain (unilateral) or both sides (bilateral). They can vary in size and shape, from small and round to large and irregular. Some fetuses have more than one.
Regardless of their number, shape or size, choroid plexus cysts are not harmful to the baby. “I am not aware of a single instance where a CPC caused damage to a fetus,” says Dr. Filly.
Dr. Peter Doubilet, a Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, agrees, “That’s one very important fact. CPCs are not harmful, and they nearly always go away by the third trimester of pregnancy.”
If CPCs are found during an ultrasound, the radiologist will scrutinize every organ and body part to look for other abnormalities, such as a malformed heart, head, hands or feet, and stunted growth of the baby. When no other abnormalities are found, the diagnosis is called an “isolated CPC.”

Hugs to you. That's first an foremost.
If that cyst is the only abnormality they identified, chances are very good that it is totally benign and will resolve on its own. The main concern is that ventricular cysts can sometimes be associated with trisomy 18, but if you've otherwise screened negative for that, then the cyst alone does not increase your risk there. (They would have to see other structural issues as well for that to be a significant concern.)
I know this is terrifying, but try not to freak out too much. Most likely, it will be fine. Giant hugs to you. I'm so sorry you're going through this.
Thanks, guys. Chesh, we did the panorama and have had all results come back completely normal. I hope it's nothing. I wish I could call my mom
Then that is good news! I'm so sorry your mom isn't around to help you through this. You know where to find us (I'll speak for the group, LOL) any time you want to talk.

❤️❤️❤️ Ugh, I just thought everything was fine. I'm a worrier so I can't leave this alone. I'm scheduling a level 2 u/s soon, hopefully that will be normal.
If it is the same as choroid plexus cysts, my oldest DD (now 7) had 2 of them with no other abnormalities. When they saw them, they automatically did a level 2 u/s with 3D imaging. Since they visually saw no other markers and my 2nd tri maternal screen had come back with good numbers, they said to do nothing else and try not to worry. We re-checked in the 3rd tri to make sure that no abnormalities had become apparent. At that time, the cysts had resolved themselves and yet again there were no other abnormalities. A few weeks later DD was born without complications, and she has developed right on target. I remember feeling sick and crying and worrying. No one wants to hear that there is a cyst in their baby's brain. It sounds awful, but truly most stories of cysts in isolation have happy endings.

This sucks. I am now freaking out That my baby has trisomy 18.
No. Your baby does not have this. You said yourself that you had the screening done and it was negative. All the research I have seen about these cysts states that they are only a marker for trisomy 18 if they are seen IN COMBINATION with other factors. If the other screening is negative, the finding of an isolated cyst DOES NOT increase the risk for trisomy 18.
PROMISE.
You know me. You know that I avoid a lot of the medical topics on here because I don't want internet randoms to read what I write as "real" medical advice. But please try not to freak out. This is something I know about and I am telling you it is okay.

I've seen a lot of ultrasounds come back with that in the results. I've never seen it actually be an issue for anyone, as they are almost always nothing. Take a deep breathe. You have a healthy baby in there, nothing else showed up on the ultrasound. I think when they show up with other abnormalities, it is more of an issue.
My oldest had this. My OB said 1 in 4 babies have this and probably even more but that they probably just resolve on their own before the a/s. I know it's hard and scary but I can tell you I have an absolutely perfect little boy and that his CPC resolved by 32 weeks hang in there!
