We always do 2.5 slices per person and we always have too much! But we usually order breadsticks also. I would do salad, veggie tray, fruit of some sort. For a special drink I would do warm apple cider. Super easy in a crock pot.

I had 12 kids and 9 adults for my son's birthday party. We ordered 10 large pizzas and barely had 1 left. We also should of ordered more cheese as all the kids wanted cheese.
Honestly, I always think about the actual people who are coming and not just adults and kids. For example, if it's my husband's friends, they'll each eat half a pizza with no problem. I always like to have more than enough. And I also agree with another poster -- the worst thing that would happen is that you'd have leftover pizza, which isn't a problem at all.
As far as other food goes, I'd have a big green salad, some fruit, maybe some garlic bread, and an easy dessert.
I like double cut, especially for the kids. I've never ordered pizzas for a large group, but it has never occurred to me that it looks cheap. I see it as an effort to reduce waste, not save money. I also like it for myself when we're standing to eat or if there are lots of choices.

I feel like this is a math word problem lol. If I have 10 adults and 5 kids, and with each adult averaging 3 pieces per person and each kid averaging 1 slice per person and a large having 10 slices and costing $15, how many pizzas do I need?
But seriously, more pizza is the answer. Leftover pizza is awesome and I would rather have too much of something (esp one that is great as leftovers) than too little. I'd assume 3-4 slices per adult. I know I can easily eat that much.
