...IKEA?
They're getting rid of AKURUM. That's the kitchen line.
Getting through this IKEA kitchen install has kind of sucked. Knowing that we could get all new fronts and do a facelift was a HUGE selling point for me. I mean, I probably wouldn't have done it, but you know options. I want options dang it!
Speaking of options, all the interior organizers better still fit with the new line. That's the primary reason I always used to drool over IKEA kitchens.

I saw something about this online. So if I understand correctly, you had the option to keep the cabinet base and change the doors when you wanted to? Sounds like a great option. Why would they do away with that? There are going to be a lot of upset customers!

Yes, the doors are all interchangeable and they have these unique hinges that are easy to snap on and off. Not like you'd change the doors out all the time, but doing it would be relatively easy.
I'm trying to figure out what it would be that they needed to change the line entirely, because as it is now they could make any door design they wanted to. I wonder if they're changing the sizing options or the hardware or what else
Interesting thought munkii. I bet you're right, semihomemade could do very well with this.
They've been moving over to the new line in other countries for the last couple years or so. I think the U.S. (unofficially) announced the move about a year in advance. I think it's inevitable.
Yeah I read that sektion was coming earlier this year. From what I read (and I haven't looked at it in a long time) it seemed like the interchangeability of doors would remain, just the sizing was going to be all different in the new line. More modular I think. Is there any more info on the new system?

Yeah, I read speculation about this on IKEAFans when I first started planning my kitchen. They're rolling it out in Europe first, and then here. It's very modular, and all based on centimeters -- like everything is 20,30,40cm...
This isn't the thread I read, but it has some info:
I thought everyone knew they were introducing a new line. What the confusion seems to be is that, as far as I know, at least, it was going to be an additional line, not a replacement line. And nothing I can find indicates that the doors are interchangeable. :/
It isn't the same as going in to ikea and getting new doors, but I have noticed that some of the online replacement door companies already make new doors for ikea cabinets, so there are options out there.
