Have you talked to the doctor? Has he puked again? Was he carsick? Sick sick?
My kids respond well to kid music in the car, that stops the screaming. You could also wait until just before naptime to leave and hope he falls asleep quickly in the car.
If carsickness is causing the vomiting I don't know what you can do about that honestly. Ditto if he is sick, but maybe if you stay another day and give him time to recover he will do better Monday.
If a baby doing all that only added one hour to your trip, I think you did awesome! Plan to stop more if you think that will help. No milk before long car rides. Take lots of changes of clothes. Receiving blankets are handy to set in puke soaked car seats do you can continue. If he's sleep, never stop the car, if he's awake and happy don't stop the car, if he's screening I'd stop at least every hour.

Did he puke because he was crying? When we went on car trips I literally brought every small toy I could in a bag. I kept it on the front seat and threw him a new one every time he started getting fussy again. We also did lots of singing to help pass the time and keep him calm.
