Do it! When we lived in the condo we had to drag our stuff down to the elevator and then the basement. As a result we only did laundry like every two weeks and it was this huge annoying chore. Now that we have laundry on the second floor (we sleep on the third floor so there's still some lifting involved) I wash stuff almost everyday. A mudroom/laundry room will be nice when J is older and come home from playing all dirty. I'd love something like this:
We don't have a mudroom and would love one too but actually I had second floor laundry and I much prefer laundry off the kitchen. I am always prepping meals so that's the most convenient. It may be an outlier opinion but I didn't like going upstairs to do my laundry--that's the floor I'm on least.
Me too - Our laundry room is off the kitchen, and i LOVE it. I can dump all the dirty kitchen towels right in there, and with small kids underfoot, it's so much easier to remain on the main level while changing loads of laundry. First floor laundry is my ideal.

We had a mudroom/laundry room off the garage in my last house and I LOVED it. It was super nice and like something that you would see on pinterest, lol.
In my current house, I have 2 sets of washers and dryers. One in our utility room in the basement and one in our upstairs where our bedrooms are. I use the upstairs W/D since it is the nice, new, high efficiency one. It has a door, so the noise isn't a huge factor, but I preferred my old set up more.
We have a first floor laundry room and I love it. I do massive amounts of laundry on a weekly basis and love having a laundry room right off the kitchen. I would not want a second floor laundry room as I spend the majority of my time in the first floor with my kids so having to constantly go upstairs to check on the laundry would be annoying.
I agree with all of this. I've never had a second floor laundry room, but I'm rarely on my second floor except when it's time for bed. I'd rather have to carry laundry up/down, but have it easily accessible to start/switch/fold throughout the day without worrying about what the little ones are doing.
I do not like a walk thru laundry/mud room combination. If you can keep them separate - then go for it! Our laundry room is in the basement, but we ran plumbing and gas to the upstairs (kitchen area) for when we are old and do not want to go down the basement for laundry - we will have the ability to add laundry at the end of our kitchen. (No I do not want it there now- but if needed, the capability to make the change is there)
