Seriously it's awesome the baby was saved, he was in there for 40 minutes and easily could have died, but as soon as I read it I was like " which MLer is that?"
I truly hope the father honestly forgot that he had the baby with him.
I can't imagine forgetting a 1 year old. I mean at 1 DS was talking and babbling like crazy and might fall asleep in the car, but unless he was asleep for a really long time I just can't see how it is possible to forget a child that old.
And why would she be questioned at all? Give the lady a medal and let her be on her way!
I don't think it's at all surprising that she was questioned by police regarding this entire event. She likely wanted to talk to the police about it too, right?
I took it like they thought she did something wrong. Which is dumb.
I just can't comprehend leaving your child in a hot car. The woman absolutely did the right thing and I'm glad he's with CPS instead of his dickhead dad.

Good for her. What's even scarier is that the dad wasn't one of those "I was just running into the store quickly!" idiots, he really forgot the baby. We all know how that could have turned out

Why not? I don't get your reasoning here. I think it is possible to forget any child. A one year old would possibly be RFing and asleep.

Wtf people? He didn't do it on purpose. It happens all the time. I am glad you are all perfect and would never make a mistake. I in the other hand am thankful every day that I have managed to keep my children alive.

I'm not saying I'm perfect. I'm saying if there's even a chance that I'd do that, I'd keep my cell phone or purse or a shoe or SOMETHING with the child so I wouldn't. And how do you know his intent?

It can happen so easily for a small child that is sleeping/rear facing and your mind is on a million other things. I too am so thankful that this has never happened to me!

DD is 2 and is quiet in the car much of the time. I SAH with her so I feel like forgetting her is unlikely since it's unusual to not have her with me but she often doesn't make much noise in the car.

Well, odds are in his favor that it was just a mistake.

He said he forgot, I am presuming at this stage he is telling the truth.
I also have tricks, leave my purse by the baby's seat, etc, but I am always terrified it could happen. Because it does happen, to several parents.
I have a pen that I keep in my purse that has an attachment that can break windows. I would never hesitate to use it in a situation like this. Good for her!

Do you have children?
Nope. But that doesn't mean I haven't been around children or had them in my car. Considering that one man is up for murdering his child for doing the same thing, doesn't mean that this couldn't have ended the same way. I'm very glad that woman stuck to her guns and got that child out of the car.

Well, your future children are very lucky to have someone who is absolutely perfect and will NEVER make a horrific mistake as their parent.

God damn. I just said I wasn't fucking perfect. It's a horrible situation all around. Again, there are ways to prevent this kind of thing from happening. That was my only point.

It's probally just because my kid has NOT STOPPED TALKING since he learned. Seriously.

Of course there are but the data supports that these things are generally very, very sad accidents. It only takes one time of forgetting for the worst to happen. I just refuse to vilify the guy when the odds are high that it was an accident until we learn otherwise. Best laid plans and all that.

Well that is nice. You realize than when it is your children, you have to take care of then even when you are sick, tired, stressed, busy, upset, etc? Do you not have days where you are preoccupied and not 100% focused on what you are doing? Well when you are a parent, those days, a mistake can cost the life if your child.

These threads make me so fucking angry.
ALL OF THIS.
I do the same mundane shit day after day. Sometimes I can absolutely swear I did something and haven't actually done it because I do it every.damn.day and truly can't recall specific uneventful instances of whatever it is, even on the same day.
