H and I are discussing furniture options. We need a new sofa (either a sectional or a sofa + a loveseat would be nice) and a dining set. We also need an outdoor dining set and a bedroom set but that is lower priority. I love everything mid century modern/modern stuff... he is meh on it. He likes more traditional stuff. I am thinking we can look at Macy's for furniture... there are some affordable pieces that kind of bridge the two styles (is there even a word for what he likes? not sure if it's traditional) - can anyone recommend another place to look that has good sales and/or deals and has some variety of styles?
He has already told me he hates this dining table that I kind of liked from Ikea's slightly fancier collection... and the chairs too. They don't look that comfortable but I don't really like lounging around the dining table so I don't care. Apparently he does :-)

His email back to me is hilarious (I had sent him some stuff I liked):
I like that IKEA sofa more than that one you sent me earlier today, even before considering price. I'd like to sit on it to see how comfortable it is. I tend to like slightly poofier couches. That chair is hideous and not worth $100, much less $500. I hate that dining table. Sorry. I also hate the chairs. They look ridiculously uncomfortable. I'm meh on the TV unit. It's fine but doesn't impress me. Not sure it fits the room if we put the TV in the same spot. For me the prioritise on furniture are 1) Comfort 2) Quality/how sturdy 3) Price 4) Appearance. I won't sacrifice function for form. I'll try to find some examples of things I like. I'm having a hard time. I can tolerate some of the IKEA stuff. Some of the costco stuff is so-so, but nothing I want to commi 5 years to.
We went to mor furniture when we got our bedroom set and couches. We seriously spent a day going to so many stores on miramar. We like big poofy cozy couches

I think we might do that too. I don't like poofy... but I want it to be comfortable. My ikea couch was NOT comfortable to sit on but really comfortable to sleep on :/
Your H sounds just like mine! My h doesn't care what it looks like if it's comfortable. He says he'd love a Lazy Boy sofa with the old school arm to pull the footrest out with. You know, the old school kind that my grandparents loved. I hate furniture shopping with him. Good luck, my friend!

oh god.
It gets better... I forgot the part where he'd really love a fabric sofa because they're so "warm and comfy!" Nevermind the fact that we have a dog and a toddler who create messes like it's their job. Good thing I usually win out or else our house would look like it came from the 80s. "But the 80s were so great!" he'd say.
Do you have colors in mind? Are you going to paint when you move in?
Probably wood + gray + maybe other neutrals w/ some accents (rugs maybe) ? It depends. I like light colored furniture... we have a mix of both right now. We are thinking about painting... I like the yellow of the living room and the bedrooms are meh... we will either paint the living, dining and kitchen or just the dining and kitchen... we'll see.

Hahah! We will prob get a fabric sofa.. Max is kind of beyond the f-ing up the couch stuff... and we have no pets. That and we're cheap. Leather would be nice though :/ IDK.
