She asked if our new nanny breastfeeds DS. I had to ask for clarification because I was so confused, but yes, she was wondering if I'd managed to find a wet nurse in this day and age.
She definitely has some recent memory/impulse-control issues that may be a sign of dementia or Alzheimer's, but she also made a lot of weird and obnoxious statements when I was BFing DD 6 years ago and was more "with it" mentally. This statement could very well just be part of her overall "breast feeding enslaves you" mentality, it's hard to know. Regardless, I always end up regretting picking up the phone for one reason or another when she calls. Sigh!

LOL to your mom!
And LOL to the article implying that often the nanny you see out with a celebrity is really a wet nurse. I highly doubt it. Is it possible there are a few, sure, but I doubt it's a common practice.
You'd basically have to be a live in nanny, and what would happen to your own child?
Also, anecdote alert!, my old neighbor was an awesome woman in her early 60's. She told me about how when she had her first child in the early 70's (before breast pumps were common) she and her best friend used to trade baby sitting since they had babies around the same age. Since they were both breastfeeding, when one of them would watch the other's child, they would just breastfeed both kids. She said they used to tease the kids that they were milk brothers.
People, it's $52K/year for a job that's round the clock with no set hours and no ability to plan any life of your own. Doulas make more than that and while the work is demanding when a client is actually in labor, if things work out, you can go home and sleep for a few days in between births.
