We had planned to do an overnight at Foxwoods but now that I'm pregnant we think we want to switch it up. This would be the weekend of 10/24, probably just for a night. We're kind of stuck because it's an odd time of year, it's past all the foliage/fall activities but not winter yet. H suggested VT, which I would be into, but where and what's there to do? If the price was right we could do two nights.

I can make some recommendations from our weekend in NH, but I have to say VT is my favorite this time of year.
I went to school up there and we usually go back every year around thiis time, but sadly aren't going this year due to the babies immenent arrival! I would recommend Burlington or Stowe,VT you can go to a Cider Mill, Cabot Cheese Outlet and Ben and Jerrys Factory in Waterbury which is close to both towns. If you're into hiking you could find some great hiking at the nearby ski areas. Burlington is the bigger "city" and has more going on as far as restaurants and night life, where as Stowe is a bit more quintesential New England.

Thanks everyone! I just thought of the Snowflake Inn in Jackson, NH. We love that area/N. Conway and for one night it's a more reasonable drive than VT. Saw some really cute B&B's in the Stowe area though, will definitely make it a point to get up there another time!
Not VT, but we enjoyed a great long weekend at North Conway a couple of years ago and at least a couple of ladies have been there recently (noodleoo, and I think vtdiamond?). There are several good restaurants, lots of great B&Bs, outlet shopping, you can drive up Mt. Washington, take some light hikes, go see some covered bridges, etc.
We went to North Conway last year and we loved it! My sister found a vacation rental, I think we had a 3 bedroom townhouse. The area is super cute and it is right near the Kancamagus Highway, which is a beautiful drive if you have not been before. Tons of gorgeous overlooks and waterfalls and hiking. We actually went to Lincoln NH this year and also had a great time. I highly recommend both. Late Oct might be a bit late for the foliage up there. I feel like it peaks before then, but it depends on the year. It was a super easy drive, perfect for a weekend.

I have been to the Snowflake Inn and I really liked it, but I also really liked "The Wentworth" which is in Jackson, NH almost across the street from the Snowflake Inn. We had a room with our own private hot tub on our outdoor deck that was sooo nice!
