So with baby 2 on her way in a few weeks....I'm starting to think logistics.
We just moved to a smaller 3 level townhouse. We currently have the main diaper changing table in DS's room ( 2nd floor) but also have a changing station in living room ( basket of supplies, travel pad and couch) on first floor so I don't have to go up and down all day to change diapers. It works right now, however.....
once baby girl comes, she will be sleeping in our room for a while and I am not sure where to do middle of the night changes... options
1) buy another changing pad and use on our dresser in our bedroom 2) change her on our bed in the middle of the night ( I see potential disaster here) 3) go downstairs to use couch/downstairs station?
i obviously don't want to go I to DS's room in middle of the night to use his changing table....he is a light sleeper as it is, and is only 1yrs. i may be over thinking this but I figured I'd do that now before we have our first MOTN wake up and I am half asleep trying to figure this out.
We bought a second changing pad so there was one in each kid's room. (Both on top of dressers.) It was so little money and much more convenient than dealing with any other scenario. When DD was in our room (for 3 weeks) we would walk to the nursery to change her - it was the room next to ours, so not a trip with any stairs.

We have a 2 story and a changing pad on each floor. We use the top of our dresser with the first drawer as diaper changing storage. I had to limit how often I did stairs in the beginning so 2 were necessary.

Can you just move one of the changing pads into your room? Does your DS still need one in his room? Idk, I stopped using a changing pad around 6 months. We just change diapers in the floor. It might not work out, but I guess that is what Amazon is for.
we had 2u2 with both in diapers for about 6 mo. We moved the change table from DS1's room to DS2's room as we didn't have MOTN diaper changes for DS1 by that time. DS2 was in our bedroom for the first 6 mo or so, but we'd just go to his room to change him, or did it on the floor.
Ugh. I hadn't even thought about changing stations on multiple levels. DH and I will figure out what we want to do in our family room which is I'm sure where we'll hang out most of the time.
Maybe I can pull a small dresser from elsewhere and toss one of those changing toppers on it.

We just kept the pack'in'play downstairs and used that. It was one of the non fancy ones too, no changing station or whatever, we just kept the bassinet attachment in it.
If we didn't use it for that we wouldn't have ever used it. She slept in her RNP or crib all the time and I hated it for travel.
We stopped using the changing table for M a few months ago. She's 22 mo. Lifting her up on the table with her fighting was not worth it. She change her on the floor on a changing pad that we just fold up and store when not in use.
We put m's changing table in the baby's room and have a pnp with changing station downstairs where we spend most of our day. I also have a basket of stuff and another changing pad in the living room, mostly to change M but I also change the baby there sometimes

Get another changing station. No question!
DH and I had a huge argument about this when I was like, a million months pregnant with DD1. He simply didn't understand why I was insisting on having a changing pad in our bedroom (on the first floor). He thought I could just go upstairs to the baby's room to change her diaper in the middle of the night and any time she needed to be changed during the day too. He actually said something along the lines of, "going up the stairs will be good exercise."
I won that argument and we not only bought a changing pad but also a whole changing table for our bedroom. It worked perfectly. I'd do that, or at least buy a pad and set it up on a dresser.
Definitely have a place to change her in your room. The less you have to move when baby wakes up in the middle of the night, the more both of you can stay in a half-asleep mode. Sometimes I think I changed and fed my boys in my sleep. I think less movement may have also contributed to them being better sleepers earlier.
I think with DS2, I moved the nice changing pad from the changing table into my bedroom and kept the thin one that came with the changing table in the nursery. I rarely changed him anyway.
Downstairs, we kept a changing pad on the bottom shelf of our coffee table (with a solid brown cover) and kept diapers/burp rags in the drawers. It wasn't obvious & was super convenient!
We had a changing pad on the dressers in both J's room and the girls' room but I still changed the girLc on our bed motn. I just put a waterproof pad down. Boppy makes some and I had a bunch from amazon too. I wasn't about to walk down the hall to change them in their room.

For MOTN diaper changes I just laid a towel on our bed, had some diapers and wipes on my nightstand and a plastic bag to throw dirty diapers in. Since newborn diapers don't stink as much I didn't worry so much about another diaper pail and just emptied them into the big trash as it got full.
When I had two in diapers I just made sure to have plenty of each size at every changing station in our house.
When X was in our room, I changed him in the diaper changer in our pack n play. We also put a receiving blanket on our bed and changed him there several times.
Will do the same this time around. Once she is in her own room, we'll use her dresser top changer MOTN.
I forgot about the packnplay changing station....we may not set ours up if she likes RNP, no room for both. But definitely an option.

Thank you for this....I cannot believe I didn't think of this. Especially since he doesn't use it MOTN.....this seems like best option.

My DS is older but still in diapers. We are just going to keep the changing pad in the baby's room since DS doesn't need changed as often anymore so he really doesn't need a changing pad in his room.

Our house is 1200sf and all one level, but we had the PNP up in our room until J was at least 6 months old and had long left our room. Now that one may be sleeping in their room while the other is awake, we have a skip hop changing mat and some extra diapers in the laundry room.

We just have a Munchkin portable changing pad on top of our ottoman!

I never even had a changing table for either of my kids. I kept a basket in whichever room they were sleeping at the time, and another in the laundry room on the first floor. Both baskets had a foldable waterproof pad, diapers, wipes and a few other odds and ends (nail clippers, travel size vaseline and baby powder for use as needed, etc.). I always found it easier to just change my kids on the flat waterproof pad right on the floor.
