DV - Mom dies, but saved her 6 month old child (trigger)

This story is so sad and shocking... the mom was able to save her baby from a drunk, beligerant husband by essentially hiding the baby in the toilet and putting her dying body over it.

So, so sad. And the police didn't enter the house for 14 hours after the 911 call?!

The family of a Georgia mother killed last week says she died saving her infant daughter from her drunk, violent husband.

Jessica Arrendale, 33, died after being shot in the head on September 14 at her home in Smyrna, the Associated Press reported.

Police were called to the house in the early morning hours, but waited 14 hours to enter the house, worried that their presence would incite more violence, according to WSB. However, officials believe that both Arrendale and her husband, 30-year-old Antoine Davis, were dead before police even arrived.

Arrendale’s lifeless body was found slumped over a toilet, police said. Davis was found in the couple’s baby’s bedroom, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police believe Davis became drunk and belligerent, beating Arrendale with a baseball bat and shooting her in the head before killing himself.

The couple's 6-month-old daughter was found in the toilet, alive, according to Fox 8. Investigators believe Arrendale was holding the girl when she was shot in the head, and managed to turn in such a way that dropped the baby into the toilet and shielded the girl with her body.

Arrendale’s mother, Teresa Ionniello, told WSB that she believes Davis wanted to kill both Arrendale and the baby, but was unable to see the baby in the toilet, covered by the woman’s body.

“She was the hero,” Ionniello said, “because her last breath was saving the child.”

Ionniello also told WSB that Davis had abused Arrendale many times previously.

The baby suffered a traumatic head injury, possibly from being hit with the baseball bat Davis used to beat Arrendale.

Arrendale’s friend, Leslie Tidwell Jordan, set up a GoFundMe page for the care for the baby, as well as for Arrendale’s older daughter, who is 15. Jordan states on the page that Jessica was the “sole provider for her household.” As of Tuesday morning, the account had raised over $33,000.

I saw this story and not to be cynical or anything but I had doubts she was able to purposefully drop her daughter in the toilet in a bid to save her life. It just seemed a little, idk.

In any case, I'm glad the little girl survived and I feel horrible that those children have lived with violence and lost their parents that way. I hope they have family who can help.

I read this over the weekend. I can't imagine having to fight for your life and try to protect your child. What a tragedy.

This is so sad. I also wondered if it was really on purpose (and also if the head injury the baby suffered was actually from hitting her head on the toilet when mom fell). It doesn't matter though, and I'm glad mom's family is getting some peace from believing it.

I can't imagine living in that kind of fear.

That being said, if the police are called to the house and wait 14 hours to go in... didn't they try calling the mom back? Why didn't they come in for a welfare check or at least knock on the door?! That is too long to wait!

Especially since they think she was dead before they got there. So what were they doing for 14 hours? Eating donuts?

14 hours is a long time but maybe they were afraid that the guy was still alive and holding them hostage.

14 hours is a long time but maybe they were afraid that the guy was still alive and holding them hostage. 

14 hours with no contact is a long ass time to keep that assumption.
