It's starting to cool down here in Upstate NY, and I'm always at a loss of what shoes to wear at work in the fall/winter.
My feet get cold very easily so it's not as simple as wearing winter boots into the office and changing into pumps. My feet will still freeze.
I like to wear socks, but I don't know what shoes to wear with dress pants or with skirts/dresses with tights.
What do you wear for work on your feet in the colder months? I can get away with knee high cognac boots with certain outfits but there are other times I need to look business professional.
My recent discovery are Ankle Boots (worn with ankle socks and tights if I'm wearing a skirt or with longer socks if I'm wearing pants). I also wear tall boots quite a bit, I have a black suede pair that look nice with skirts and riding boots on more casual days.

I live in SE MN, so I feel your pain. We also have ice on the ground from November through April, and I have an infant to carry in and out of daycare, so heels or wedges are out. I had all of my winter work pants hemmed for flats.
Last year I got a pair of black pony-hair loafers for pretty cold days (not these, but extremely similar):
And I wear them with sheer black trouser socks (I like the ones at Target--I think they are Merona?) which works out well.
I also have a couple of pairs of tassel loafers in leather and nubuck that come up a little higher on the top of my foot so I can get away with a heavier sock on the days that it's single-digits or below.

This is pretty much what I do. When it is snowy I will wear snow boots outside and change in to the nicer shoes inside.
Oh, and this won't help you with commuting, but I have a heated footrest at my desk and it is AWESOME. I can wear ballet flats and still be comfortable.

Genius idea! I usually use my space heater but a heated footrest would be even better. Off to go look for one.
