I really am shaken. I know this is not about me, and I cannot imagine what those poor families are going through, but I am definitely rattled and have had the shakes since I found out.
It was so so close to home for you though... you should be kind to yourself and let yourself have your feelings. Survivors Guilt and PTSD are very VERY real.
Yes, PLEASE encourage your H to talk to a counselor, even just to check in, and keep it in the back of your mind to suggest it again a few months from now, even if things seem ok. My DH had a very similar thing happen at his work place nine years ago, and he also was not there at the time, but still has nightmares and other signs of PTSD from it. I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry... Years ago my mom was working at the Southern Calif post office that had a shooting, the guy came in and killed one her coworkers and was looking for others that he knew, my mom was trying to save her friend that was shot, but the other coworkers were trying to drag her away because they were worried M (the shooter) would also shoot my mom, because he knew her and was 'friends with her. The person he killed was considered one of his good 'friends. Eventually, they were able to run out of the building to safety (with my mom in tow).. I will add that my mom seemed to never get over this traumatic event, like someone mentioned she had a form of PTSD.
Wanted to say I hope your DH company offers some type of counseling services, I think that would be helpful even in groups if people are up for that. Again, I am so very sorry.
OMG, I've been skipping this post because I hate hearing about murder suicides. Then my husband came home and told me what happened. He also works for UPS.
I am so sorry to hear your husband knew and worked with this man. How absolutely terrifying. Those poor families! Ugh! I can't even imagine!
Sending my UPS spouse hugs! Way too close to home!!
