H and I have decided that next spring we're ripping up our back paver patio and putting in a concrete one. We're just tired of the maintenance required for the pavers (weeding, settling, etc.) and if we're going to have it re-done, we're going low maintenance. Hence, concrete.
That said, we don't want a boring grey concrete slab. So we're debating between stamped concrete to keep the paver look or doing a stained slab.
Opinions on one over the other? Photos you'd like to share?
Also, I get to re-imagine how this space looks and functions, so any input there would be appreciated. Let me attach some photos.

We put in a stained and textured concrete patio last year, it was like $2k less than stamped concrete. I think it looks nice. I will look for some pics.
Our old house had a ton of stamped concrete around the pool and in the patio. We actually loved it a lot. No maintenance and it looks lovely. I don't have experience with stained concrete patios, but I will say my ILs have stained concrete flooring throughout their house and they had a hell of a time with the application of the stain. Its tricky to get exactly the shade you want and if it isn't applied absolutely perfectly you get defects in the stain. They hired pros and it still has uneven marks, pooling, sweep strokes, etc.

Why not continue the deck into that space? either to be one step down from the existing deck if the patio door height is a concern or level with what is already there.

This might be possible? I guess I figured it would involve more work to tear out the concrete step that's there. But it would possibly solve the awkwardness of that space. I guess we can quote both options out.
@missusbee - yeah, my sister and BIL did stained concrete floors in their house and ran into similar issues.
escrow - thank you for the pic! I like how that looks. (also your daughter's adorable)

They may be able to leave the step under the decking, but it could end up being a less expensive option!

You should see my face. This never occurred to me. I am an idiot.
We did ours this summer and went with a concrete-look that was actually made from old tires. We love how flexible and low maintenance it is, kid friendly, and cheaper too
