Oh shit, yeah. Also a chef's knife. You don't have to go whole hog, but one of those cheap shit serrated things with the flimsy plastic handle is no bueno. Cheap paring knives are awesome though.

I'm cheap about a lot of stuff. Things that are worth it to me not to cheap out on are:
Meat (I'd rather pay more for animals that were treated well and have a somewhat less guilty conscious) Bras (the difference for me between looking stacked and looking like I'm trying to smuggle bananas out of the grocery store) Jewelry (I almost never buy it---like every 7-10 years- so I'd rather get something that will last forever than lots of cheaper pieces)
Shoes - well fitted shoes with good support - both classic and fun styles Glasses- I wear them daily - buy something that looks great on you and will stand a bit of abuse (not that you want to abuse them) Paint - definitely good paint - SW or BM Quality furniture for anything you want to last Flooring - get the real deal not the look alike A GOOD haircut quality outerwear for cold temperatures premium ice cream

Ooh, I agree with this too. Cheap jewelery always looks... well, cheap.

If there is a generic or store brand of basically anything, I'm probably buying it. The things I will spend more money on, though, are luggage, toothpaste, and ground beef.
Very little. Food and beer is probably it. We can't really afford it, and I am used to putting up with poor quality stuff that doesn't work that well so it doesn't bother me that much.
I can't seem to turn it down, but my inner yarn snob won't knit with it. It's kind of a problem.
Cheap yarn is IDEAL for knitting toys for unappreciative tiny people and animals who will destroy whatever you give them anyway. It's also good for giving to tiny people who want to "knit" with you. They don't get yarn worth more than $3 to tangle knit with.
I'll echo the previous posts of toilet paper, make-up, bras, and tissues.
I will add wine.
Define cheap? Because I can find perfectly good bottles for $8-10.
I don't consider $10 necessarily cheap when it comes to wine. There are plenty of good drinkable $10 wines. I'm thinking more like Sutter Home, Yellow Tail, and Barefoot price points. Here those are $5 or less.

Yeah, so, even there I discriminate between Barefoot and Sutter Home.
My favorite $5 wine right now is the Rex Goliath cab.
Doesn't mean there's not a 20 year old Joseph Phelps cab in my wine fridge.
Is this where I admit that I don't really drink wine and know very little about them, so when I have to buy wine I choose by the prettiest label or coolest name?

I LOVE ROOSTER WINE! We used to buy that all the time. Back when we bought wine all the time.
