Mostly, what the non-breeders did is ask the breeders to take it elsewhere.
So they did. And now when they have other shit to talk about, they'd rather talk to the people they "know". Non-breeders are welcome to jump over any time, and I think the board name is kind of dumb and non-representative, but the masses hate change so it won't ever change.
This is how I remember things. People were annoyed by lots of kids posts.
Do most people not read and post on lots of boards? That's what I've done for years. ML used to be way insane so I avoided it, but it's pretty normal now.
I actually don't. I have bookmarks on my phone for both MM and MMM and don't venture anywhere else.
I didn't take the linked post as gloating. But if I have a money topic, it will go on MM. I have gotten very few responses in the past though (way back though), so don't put much effort into trying to start new topics (+ have very little time to read or post anyway)
Is there any chance that a small portion if a decline in posting has something to do with employers cracking down on internet surfing during the workday? I know I don't have that option, and quite a few people on these forums over the years have run into trouble!

First I fully admit to going to MMM first. I read and post there more often. I don't want MM to die though. I considered this my home board for a long time. I try to come over here and participate. I rarely start posts on either board, so sorry about that.
As for the linked post I did not even see it when it was first posted an it only got two replies. So I would not assume most of the board feels that way.
I still love MM despite hanging on MMM, too. I want MM to be an active board--ML kind of scares me, and sometimes I need a place that is not all kid talk. Plus there are a lot of non-breeders on MM who I really like.
I post here quite a bit, but I will make an effort to try to start threads now and then.
I think we should delete the makeup board and integrate those types of posts back on MM. There weren't even that many makeup posts anyway, and no one posts on MM makeup.

I am pretty sure I was the person who was most vocally against the makeup board (mostly because I thought it was unnecessary, not because I thought it would divide us) so I'm certainly in full support of that.
But to be honest, I think most of the people who were OMG MAKEUP! ALL I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS MAKEUP! have moved on (and I think that was kind of a fleeting obsession here anyway?).

I didn't read much of this thread, but I've been busy with a cross country move and now I can't gbcn at my new job. I post on MM and MMM about equally, and that's not much. I try to pop in when I can.

This was MM biggest downfall, with a few regulars who posted often jumping ship coming in second. A lot of people complained about too much baby talk so the "@" symbol was created so people could skip over the baby post. Then, people were like "I'm tired of scrolling past all the @ post" and MMMs was created. And yes a majority of posters didn't complain but enough did where it was found necessary to create the sub-board. Same thing with the makeup board but on a smaller scale.
And to say that people should have stuck to keeping the baby talk on MMMs and everything else on MM is ridiculous. Like token mentioned, most posters want to ask questions and get advice from people they "know" and that's usually their home board. Also, with a lot of boards, non regular posters don't get as many replies as they may in their home board were they are known. So again, people stick too the main board.
Any who I'm down rambling now. Sorry if my thoughts were all over the place.

I'm sad things aren't quicker paced over here, so I've been trying to do my part and post more. I don't post enough so then I feel like people don't know me which makes me more hesitant to post. Also, my home board has become TTTC, because that's a lot of what I have to talk about. If y'all want to hear about IVF #3, that's what's on my mind these days.

Ditto this exactly, except it's IVF #2 for me. (high5)
I thought the @ labeling system worked fine, but I didn't mind when the sub-board was created because I thought people would just go back and forth -- like labeling with the @ but just putting it in another "folder," so to speak.
Now that I'm infertile and bitter, some days I just want to wallow and I'm happy to come to MM and not have to see many pregnancy/baby/kid posts...I've gotten used to it! But I do wish it were more active and exciting here, at any mommy-talk cost.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!
I agree with gravytrain225. I have tried on so many occasions to post non-MMM related things here, because this is where I started on the old site, and it would be nice for it to stay active. If I look back at the last handful of posts that I made on MM vs MMM, the highest number of responses I have gotten was 6.
I also agree with whoever (@tokenhoser, maybe) said that you end up feeling more comfortable with your home board and people you "know." I never posted regularly until I was pregnant with C and MMM had just been created for the most part. The smaller community was appealing at the time and I have "grown up" as a poster with a lot of those people even as the board has grown and gotten transplants from other boards.
