She only has a strider bike right now, but we'll get her a helmet. My mom was pretty good about getting us to wear helmets for stuff. I always wore wrist guards when learning to rollerblade and snowboard. I started wearing a helmet to ski years ago too.
DD is still too young but we plan on it. I always wear a helmet myself. And I saw a nasty crash where a car hit a bike in college and I had a friend get hit on get bike and her helmet saved her life. This topic certainly hits close to home for me.
Yes, always. Dh is an avid road cyclist and it is non negotiable. He takes ds out in the trailer often and he always wears his helmet. He even knows to go and get his helmet when dh tells him they are going for a ride.

I'm breezy about most things, but helmets are my hill to die on. Always. No exceptions. Even my 3 year old sports one on her trike while about 2 inches off the ground. My cousin has a TBI from not wearing a helmet. Seeing how it has changed her entire life, I will never let my kids skip the helmet. I have even told neighborhood friends to go home and get their helmets when they're playing with my kids (I know their parents, I'm not just shouting at random kids riding by the house).
I am still on the hunt for a helmet that will fit my kid's adult size noggin.
She putz's around the culdesac with her radio flyer scooter but doesn't really understand how to use it yet. I do think I want her to wear a helmet when she starts using a bike (don't have one yet) and she will definitely wear it when riding in the bike trailer.
Have you tried a Nutcase helmet? They are adjustable. Dd1 has had hers for 3 years!

We got ours at a local bike shop. They have every size from 6 months up and tried them on him until they got the correct fit.

Yes always save for when she's making circles on her big wheel in the driveway- but that's mostly because she's off and on that thing every 5 mins. She doesn't have a real bike yet.

There may be a couple times riding in the house where he didn't but outside on wheels means helmet.
This is what do. I don't think it's really necessary on his scooter because he cannot go very fast, but it's more about instilling the habit now so it will always be automatic.
Always, if they are outside. We have carpet inside (and really only one ride-on toy inside), so I worry less there. I figure it's a good habit. Just like it wouldn't occur to me to sit in a car without a seatbelt, I hope it won't occur to my kids to ride a bike without a helmet. (Wishful thinking, I'm sure!) We have great neighbor kids who are a good example for DS1. They play most of the summer with their helmets on, so they can hop on and off of their bikes quickly.
pugz, ask at the bike shop if they can order a Nutcase for you. If they cannot, ask if they can fit one to your child if you bring it in. If it's a good shop, they'll be happy to do it. (Customer service is SO important to these small shops, and if they give you good service now, they "know" you'll come back the next time you need something. The bike shop had better options than Target/Walmart & they were more adjustable (but holy $$$$!). The size name means nothing on them! DS1 is 3 & tried on a 4+ helmet and there was no way it was appropriate for him. Good luck. They can absolutely find a helmet to fit her. (& you can buy stickers to make it more kid-like if they don't have cute designs.)

Anything that involves pavement (or ice) at greater than running speed. So a 2 year old going running speed on a scooter, no helmet. A 5 year old biking on our paved driveway, helmet. Ice skating, helmet.
If it has wheels, DS has a helmet on. End of conversation. He took a spill over the front handlebars of his tricycle a couple weeks ago that would've landed us at least in urgent care had he not had one on.
