I quickly googled in and its an anti-facebook right? They don't believe in selling your info to advertisers. I wonder if it will actually take off. How are you guys liking it so far those who are on it?
they said "We're not interested in ruling the world. We think people that are motivated to do things like that have unresolved psychological problems."
I like these people
(I have no idea how this will survive without $$ but I'm hoping maybe there will be enough grassroots support to keep it going - heck if we can fund a stupid potato salad on kickstarter we should be able to keep this alive)

It's hard to say how I like it. I know very few people on it so far, and as they're still in Beta, things like Search aren't working to find people you don't already know are using it.
But I love the idea and am always up for trying something new!
Well then! My sentiments on this, as summed up by a friend who posted the following on FB: "You all are going to feel really silly driving up the monetary value of Ello when Facebook buys them in 12 months (at which point I'll Ello-L)."

Why would anyone feel silly for trying out a new technology that they think is cool? No one is passionate about tech because they want to "stick it to the man". Part of the fun of tech IS believing in the value of something new and driving up the value of it so that people who find a solution to an articulated problem can put food on the table as a result of that passion. Laugh if you want, but the best innovators are the ones who people always say are crazy for their ideas.
I'm going to read more about this to be able to determine if it's something I'll try or not. The reason I've been pretty much broken up with FB is just how congested it's gotten with ads and the lack of privacy that seems to getting to be a bigger and bigger problem. So I'm glad to hear this isn't something that Ello interested in doing- so that's a plus.
But before this post I hadn't heard about it at all so I was all "huh?!" Lol
