It's called a "Ruby Falls" redbud. I hope it will grow up to look like this one:
Total impulse buy, like gum at the grocery checkout line, just more expensive. I just happened to be at the nursery shopping for a client, and had some room left on my truck.

Redbuds are not fussy. My city has plenty of them planted along the right-of-way as street trees, and they are very tolerant of harsh conditions. However, most of them are pruning nightmares. To develop the branch structure you have to select small trees carefully, and start pruning them when they're young. If you don't, they fall out of shape quickly, and reshaping them later on is difficult.
I normally keep things in humongous pots for a couple of years before they go to ground so that's probably what I'll do with this. I really don't have room for it!
