Based on rikki's advice it's the only new show I'm picking up, and I am hooked! Most of the characters aren't really likeable, but the storyline is GOOD. Plus, I'm a fan of a female main character that isn't all sugar and sweet (I'm looking at you Zooey D - you're adorable but maybe TOO adorable!)
I am very curious about the actual murder - it feels like that storyline will be unfolding all season and then we'll have a featured case each week. YAY.
Along with Good Wife, now I feel like I have a good legal mix in my limited TV viewing Love the legal dramz.
I watched it last night and kind of hated it. Putting aside the absolute ludicrousness of anything in the episode relating to law or law school because really, we don't have all day for me to complain about that (and also -- am I the only one who thought there was a bit of a Legally Blonde ripoff going on? 1L students compete for coveted internship with professor and get client off for murder), I thought the main character was waaaaay over the top. Not for lack of talent -- Viola Davis is extremely talented -- so I'm guessing I just hate the writing It sucks when female characters have to be weak or too sweet, but I found her to be a caricature. She's no Patty Hewes But I can't tell if it's the character herself or the hectic pacing though that did that to me.
I'll give it a few more episodes because I literally have NOTHING else I'm watching and I like a mystery, but I'm not very hopeful.
I plan to catch it on On-Demand tonight. I am still trying to finish last week's Scandal. I am so sleepy by the time the kids go to sleep that I usually pass out mid-episode.
How have I not gotten into Scandal? Will need to borrow a netflix password and binge watch when winter comes. I understand it is fab.

I thought the first episode for season 4 was just meh. It could have been better.

I also got a strong Legally Blonde vibe from the storyline.
I really liked it but I was surprised at how racy it is. On network TV! There was some pearl clutching for sure.
My friend said, "It's so raunchy! Do they know they're not on HBO?" It was just weird...there are obviously ways to show a couple is intimate without that particular...positioning. I think we were meant to infer that she was the boss of that situation lol.
Speaking of that scene, by the way -- it also made the guy a complete idiot. Why would he stand up to reveal himself when he was completely obscured from view?
I don't like HTGAWM as much as Scandal or even Grey's (though, to be fair, I can't quit Grey's whether I want to or not). The acting/characters just weren't good. But I'll give it a few more episodes.
I thought that murder story line was just a test and not a real person until the end, so that was interesting and not what I expected.
I wanted to like this but just couldn't get over the ridiculousness of these being first year law students. The entire time I just kept screaming in my head about how law school is absolutely nothing like this. I wish they had just made it a cut throat law firm because I could have probably accepted that enough to actually like the show.

I watched last night. I didn't hate it but... didn't love it either. Found it over the top too. The fact that these students have other classes? Eh, whatevs. don't go to them. Just help me solve my case!
And I'll even step out on a limb here - not loving Scandal either. I 'm kind of over the "as long as Olivia is angry and gives another righteous diatribe - everything is cool!". I mean- she gets pissed at Abby for accusing her of causing Harrison's death, claims "she did nothing wrong" and THEN accuses Abby of bailing on the firm and that the firm fell apart because ABBY left. REALLY??? The "Olivia Pope" firm fell apart because ABBY went to work at the White House? Olivia disappearing (and changing her name) entirely w/ absolutely no plan to come back. No. That had absolutely nothing to do with the OLIVIA POPE firm closing.
I'm tired of Olivia ALWAYS BEING RIGHT when she actually isn't. But as long as she yells... everyone kowtows to her.
ECB -- I also loved things like, the girl who saw on social media that one of the witnesses wore glass... figured out there must be more to that... and called every ophthalmologist in the Philly area (there can't be more than a few hundred, right?) to investigate what the eye condition is. Because, like, that's totally worth it because people never wear glasses just because of near-sightedness or whatever. Believe me, studying for your torts class is a more productive use of your time.
I've watched the pilot of Scandal like 3 times and couldn't get myself to watch another episode. I love soapy shows, but hate righteous diatribes.

And didn't she do that in a matter of an hour or two???
And yeah... Scandal is a lot of righteous diatribes. A LOT. Mostly from Olivia but occasionally from other characters.

Yes!!! I told DH that I remembered now why I stopped watching network TV shows. I kept comparing it to Damages as well, and Damages is just so much deeper. The characters and the acting are so much better in Damages. Glenn Close keeps you guessing - is she good or bad? You still don't even really know through the whole show. I thought the acting was horrible in HTGAWM by all of the cast members. especially the main character. It was like she only had one look on her face - pissed off. And the four law students just sucked - I felt like I was watching a 90's teen scream movie. And the fact that a huge part of the plot development centered on a law student running over to his professor's house/office in the middle of the night - pretty sure he really would have just sent an email. But if they didn't put that part in, we wouldn't know about the affair. Crappy writing like that is what turns me off from these types of shows.
