My legs are pretty muscular. I think some is genetics. I used to have amazing calf muscles when I was doing karate but back then they were embarrassing to me as a 16 year old girl since they weren't dainty. I would kill for those leg muscles now. My thighs and quads have always been larger and muscular too, running just made them more formed.
I have big calves. My H and I actually measured, and our calves are the exact same size. I haven't really noticed them getting any bigger though since running more.
I actually used to be really self-conscious about my quads. I used to be a sprinter in HS, and had the biggest muscular quads ever. I hated jean shopping because of that - the waist would fit, if only I could get them over my legs! Since I've started running longer distances though I've seen them lean out rather than be bulky anymore.

Yes, I had nonexistent calves before I started running two years ago. I love my runner's calves now, I was actually excited last winter when my boots fit snug.
Be proud of your runner's calves, you've worked hard for it!
I like my calves. They're definitely more defined from running but mine got smaller as I lost weight this spring. I think the size of your calves is largely genetic, IMO.
I have giant calves that are genetic, but they have become even more defined through running and standing on my toes constantly. Short people problems.

I have small calves and never have a problem finding boots. My quads are big though and I fantasize that they are smaller. I hate running in shorts because of my quads.
My thighs on the other hand are quite large. It's genetics though. They've always been disproportionate to my waist therefore pants are hard to find. I had a random store cashier ask me if I played soccer. I said I used to why? he said your legs look like soccer player legs. :/ Yay?
I cannot believe the shit people say or the reasons they use to stop exercising. I do not have large calves, but when I run more, they look so much more muscular and I LOVE IT.
