My great grandfather started a business off the back of his truck. That grew into a business ran by my grandparents and then my Dad and Uncles. Due to the economy a few years ago and some really bad people they had for clients, they had to close. They're still a corporation taking in money through a small office....but the every day processes shut down. They rented out the building to a brewery who is buying the building today.
During our engagement photo sesh in 2008, our photography wanted to take pictures near an old train track near that building. She didn't know there was a family connection to this nearby building. During the session, we pointed it out. Since my maiden name was on the building so she definitely wanted to take a few pictures with it. I'll always have those which is good....
I can still see my Grandfather sitting in his desk telling everyone to "Be good" as they walked out the front door. This is going to be better for them financially in the long run. It's still very emotional for us today.
Can you go there today and take a final photo to commemorate the different memories and journeys along the way?
I felt the same way when my grandmother sold the house built by my great grandfather. It's hard to lose those family connections to someone who can't possibly appreciate them *hugs*
I'm out of state, unfortunately. My Dad went by there to say goodbye earlier with his brother. Since they've already painted over the name and renovated the building (yes, I know this is backwards....long story) it's already changed past recognition in certain ways. But I have those pictures from the engagement session at least....
