When you're running an animal shelter, names are probably the least of your worries. But you've got to call the little guys something, right? Well, somebody at the Wisconsin Humane Society has quite a talent in this particular arena.
PROFESSOR PUDDINPOP. Just imagine how cute he'd look in a lil tie! It looks like Colonel Snazzypants and the Good King Snugglewumps have, sadly, already been adopted. But we found so much more when we popped over to verify:
Yes I will take them all, thank you! Such forethought, naming them things I will end up calling them, anyway. (For a long time my cat, who has a real name, went by "Fuzzbuzz" when I greeted him upon arriving at home.) Additional winners include Lester, Zena, Vespa, Mighty Mouse and Waldorf. Oh and, for some reason, Adrien Brody. Unfortunately there are, as yet, no photo available for Adrien. Nor is it just the cats!
It's almost enough for me to reconsider my firmly held conviction that human names are the best names for cats. "Tom," say, is pretty good, but this makes me think, "Mister Tom T. Bombadil Attorney at Law" would be better.
As long as I can keep Provolone. It's a cat named after cheese- two of my favorite things in the entire world! Why did I not think of combining them sooner? lasagnasshole

There's also a Flemish Giant rabbit named Coco Puff, an American rabbit named Bubbles, a coonhound named Nymera, a domestic shorthair mix kitten named Fozzie Bear and another one named Tom Tucker....

I'll take Provolone! I love black kitties. Once I found out that black cats are far less likely than any other cat to be adopted, I made a promise that I will only adopt black kitties.
Our favorite shelter does a pretty good job at naming their animals.
When we adopted our cat from them I said out loud to MH that I once heard Walter Croncat used as a name - the girl behind the counter thought this was hilarious and in their next round of kitties a Walter Croncat showed up. I should've mentioned Edward R. Meow as well, lol.
Of course this also made cuddle my former-shelter kitty, despite her super-average name. We have about 16 other names she goes by, so it all works out.
Omggggg he looks just like my now-16-pound former barn cat (who has a fantastic name - I take great pride in my cat-naming skills). I need more kitties!!

I have a black kitty who was almost dropped off at a high kill shelter, but was thankfully intercepted by a woman who runs a rescue (normally dogs, but she saw this beautiful cat and had to take him). My husband feels certain he would have been adopted quickly because he's a Persian, but he is solid black and he would not do well in a shelter situation - he gets all mopey and stressed out when we board him at the vet.

I love naming the kittens at the shelter, I got to name at least 50 this summer. I try to pick a theme for the litter so they're easier to remember, but it is hard to be creative after a certain point. Fellow volunteers also come up with great names... and frankly some terrible ones too, no kitten should be called Chester OK?
My 4 are Donna (after doctor who companion Donna Noble), Gizmo, Luna, and Yoshi (foster fail kitten!)
