So, I finally realised (thanks to chatting to a proper running coach) that the mega blisters on my right foot (ball of foot) are probably due to the trainers being done, and I bought a new pair.
Question is: do I just start running in them full time? Do I keep doing every other run in the old ones even though they give me massive blisters? I'm currently running 13+miles every weekend. I want to keep doing that. This weekend would make it 8 in a row
Different model and brand. Have gone from Adidas supernova sequence 5 to Asics gel nimbus 14.
YOU CAN STILL GET 14s?! I only have one pair left. </3
If they are similar to the Adidas shoes in terms of pronation control and heel drop, I'd just start running in them, especially since your old ones sound shot. (How many miles are on them?)

yep! From the Asics store in Cheshire retail outlet. If you want, I can send you a pair?
Thanks everyone. I'll give them a go on my mid week run tonight. I'm almost scared of wearing the old adidas which I think only had 400 miles on them, which I would have thought wasn't that much. It's not, right??

They say average life is 300-500 miles. Mine always seem to wear out in the lower end of that range
Just broke out a new pair this morning. My only recommendation is to ease into them. I did a hard run this morning 12 mile tempo and my feet did not like running so hard in a pair of shoes that had not been broken in yet.
I think 400 miles is average to good. My biggest problem when I switch shoes is getting the shoelaces right. Too tight and I get bruising, too loose and my Achilles bugs me. It's a tough life, lol.

That is awesome of you to offer. I should probably pass though, I've had 4 pairs in a row and while they've been good to me (much better than the 15s were) and kept me "significant injury-free," I have started to have some blister spots this summer and am thinking maybe I *should* try something new. Maybe even soon, while I still have one pair of 14s (my safety blanket!) left in the closet.
If you like the 14s, be careful about the 15s. They gave me achilles issues, and a bunch of other people have had other complaints as well. I don't know anyone who has tried the 16s yet.

Theoretically, if it's the proper shoe for you, it shouldn't require breaking in first.
However..... I wear the Saucony Guides, which I find to be very stiff at first, and that causes my arch to cramp. I casually walk around in them for a couple weeks before I take them for their first run. They feel great after the intial break-in period.

Ditto everyone else, if they're the same heel drop, then go for it. No point in continuing to blister!
The life of the shoe is hugely dependent on the shoe, itself. More cushiony shoes will wear down faster. My completely flat Pace Gloves and my Brooks PureConnect have lasted well over 500 miles.
Interesting perspectives, thanks everyone. I didn't go for a run tonight as I was in London today for work and was exhausted /had more work to do when I got home. Will do a short run tomorrow night and as it's casual Friday, will wear them all day Friday. Thanks also for the warning on the 15s!
