So I've got this lovely school function thingy on Thursday night. It's being held at a family's fancy house. As you can see on the invite, we had to pay to go. Do I need to bring a hostess gift? Also, what would you wear? It says it's a casual night, but I'm not sure what these people consider casual.
This thing had better have an open bar. I'm not down for this beer and wine shit. Maybe I'll pack a flask.
fancy! I would bring a small gift assuming the fee goes to food/drink and not to the hostess for opening their space which is what the small gift would be to thank.
eta: to clarify, if this was at a restaurant i would not bring a gift.
Is the fee a school fundraiser or to pay for food/drinks? If the money is going to the school I'd consider bringing a hostess gift. But if it's to pay for the drinks, I probably wouldn't.

Since you are paying, I would skip the hostess gift unless it's a small group (6-8 couples). I always overdress for these things, but nice slacks and a great top and shoes (boots to hide the flask) would work for me.

I agree, no hostess gift, and err on the side of overdressing. I'd wear a dress, personally, if it's warm enough.
