Whatever you do make sure that they are actually allowed by your car seat. Most if not all car seats do not allow any extra "things" like canopies, baby positioners, etc as they can alter the way that the baby fits in the actual seat and make them unsafe.
If I were you I would jut buy some light a&a swaddle blankets so use as a car seat cover. Those are completely safe and breathable.
"Since neither a car seat cover or car seat boot actually touches the car seat's harness straps, they should be as safe as tucking 'a blanket around your baby over the buckled harness straps,' as the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends doing in the winter." Example of one I'm looking at:
This is one without minky fabric so it might get used longer
I ordered the canopies and we have bad winters. I like that it isnt really touching the baby but more blocking out cold and wind so I think you'd be fine. If you dont need it for cold so much you could always just throw a blanket over while walking outside and take it off once in the car. I plan to lift the canopy when they're in the car anyway.
I ordered mine online when they were free, just had to pay shipping.
I think it's a cute idea. We just used an A&A blanket to cover it up but it's a nice way to hide the baby when they are asleep and/or you don't want anyone getting up in their face.

Not a bad idea at all.
We have the JJ Cole shower cap style bundle me (not the one that goes behind the baby, just over them) and will use that again in the winter - it's SO much easier than wrestling a baby in and out of a snow suit. Plus it's safer than a snow suit/coat in the car seat (we will put her in a fleece jacket with the bundle me over her just like we did with DD1).
DS was a January Texas baby and I think minky is too much. Ours was cotton. It'd be great for January and February but then you'll want something lighter.
I was wondering about this too! We live in a warmer climate as well, BUT we can get some pretty cold days so I really have no idea what exactly we might need.
I think the coldest day I remember last year was 19 degrees, but that was a random winter storm passing through and the very next day it was 70 degrees
It is typically fairly breezy around here, we have some A&A blankets but I wonder if that would be enough - seems like wind could get through pretty easily?
S. Fl here, so take this with a grain of salt. Unless you worry about wind blowing it off, I'd just use a blanket over time. I don't think it will be cold enough long enough to get decent use out of that. I am guessing I'll have to use a heavy blanket maybe a dozen or so times all winter. For warmer weather, I'll just use an A&A blanket.
I'm using one in CA now during a heat wave (90-100*) I just use it when walking around outside to block the sun (like walking to or from the car- not for any length of time) Or when is stores/restaurants and he is sleeping. I pull it up while in the car.
ladybug My other thought besides cold weather was eating at restaurants or when we're out and about somewhere like a mall to keep everyone from wanting to touch him

We got these as well, glad to hear you like them. As we are in new england I know we will be toting the carseats between the car and other places in cold, snow, etc so will need more then just a blanket over them.

We had DD1 in Feb 2011, one of the snowiest & coldest on record, she never once complained about being cold LOL!
