So the distributor's installation crew came and demo'ed the previous backsplash and started installing the new one yesterday.
ETA: new pic that dh took during lunch of it completed.
Such a huge difference. Still not white but I'm happy with the lighter stone and that there's not so much variation to it. It also goes with our floor much better. I think we've come to terms that pretty much nothing in the design center will look right with our green granite countertops. All the granite we've seen them use always looks green. So we'll probably more than likely be replacing it in a few years.
Our builder said they did indeed install the wrong stone. So that's going to have to be torn out and the correct stone installed. They also had to tear out the tile in DS's shower because they put it up in a diagonal when we wanted it straight. They're also going to have to figure out how to add another vanity light in our bathroom because I confirmed with our design center consultant that we were supposed to get two, and the guys only installed one. Drywall and texture is already done. So I'm sure they're going to love us. On top of that, we ordered four lights for the front of the house. They only got three in. Apparently it's a discontinued model and they're having a hard time trying to find a fourth one. We may have to look into other options. This house feels like a reno instead of a new build with all the crap they're having to redo.

Whoa! That's a big difference. So glad it worked out. Maybe try Lamps Plus Open Box for the discontinued model of light? I can't believe they just installed three instead of telling you so you could pick a different one. They seem a little slapdash, for sure. At least they're 'fessing up and fixing things. Good luck!
is your granite already in? i would NOT be happy at the prospect of replacing basically brand new granite in a few years. you shouldn't have to pay for it twice. i would ask them to discount whatever for not using their product and go find my own slab and have it installed now.

Yes. It is in. If we hadn't already bitched about everything else on this build, I'd probably ask for them to put in a different slab but I'm just bitching at them. The previous backsplash did totally make the green more noticeable. We'll see what it looks like with the new backsplash once they remove all the blue plastic wrap. Could just be the wrap making it look green too. We figured that if we replace it a few years down the line that we'll just have the company refab parts of our island to use in our bathrooms.

that's a good idea. you could also probably sell it to someone on craigslist, too, if you wanted to go that route. i know people will buy a bigger chunk to cut down for a smaller kitchen or bathrooms or furniture.
i'm just so annoyed for you. it's a brand new house! you shouldn't already be wanting to replace major items because the builders/designers/whoever keep screwing up!

I've looked on all the lighting websites I can think of.
I like the first one and of course DH likes the second one. Both of us hate looking at bulbs on the outside of the house (I know. Weird peeve of mine. Ha) They have to come from Seagull because that is our builder's distributor.

Yeah. Or maybe the company will even give us a discount on the new one if they get to take our old one back. Because you know they'd probably take it and sell it as a remnant. So they'd be making money twice for a job.

Good god, I hope someone is taking notes on how badly this thing is going for you. The new tile definitely looks better. I didn't think it looked awful before, but I totally get how disappointing it is to be expecting one thing and getting something completely different.

Oh trust me we are.
So far: -Realized our elevation wasn't what we though it was (but that was totally on us. Still kind of mad that they didn't tell us the one we wanted wasn't available in our subdivision. Whatever.) -discolored exterior stone -wrong garage doors delivered and installed (but we'll keep because they're growing on us) -wrong tile pattern in DS's bathroom -they installed a tile shelf in master shower despite numerous discussions that we don't want it because we paid for a shower niche -didn't install our second master bathroom vanity light -green granite -incorrect stone around our fireplace -and of course the backsplash fiasco -Ohhhhh and the fact that we will more than likely have to pick a different exterior light because they can't get our last light since it has been discontinued.
Hmmmmm...I feel like I"m forgetting something.
Oh yeah.... -island cabinets being shoved into the island. WTH. Which btw there is a gaping hole on the side of our island between the cabinet and the back of the island. I'm guessing they'll come back and put a piece of board that looks like the cabinet to connect the two? I have no idea and I'm not sure how that's feasible since I see no good spot for them to attache the two pieces that way since there is an outlet on the island part.

You need to keep complaining about every big or little thing they screw up. We built 2 years ago and didn't have hardly any issues. You're paying a lot of money for them to do their jobs. Hold them accountable. At this point, I'd probably go up the chain to ensure it's finished smoothly.
Went and checked it in person. Looks so much better and surprisingly the lights do help make it look lighter and the granite doesn't look green now. Must have just been the blue plastic making it look that way but I couldn't get agood look at them until they took the blue stuff off.
Thank you! And thank GAWD it's not green. Even the slab in the model home is freaking green. I'm going to feel bad for whoever buys that house after they've built out in our subdivision and move out.
ditzydi - obsessed with your granite and backsplash - do you happen to know the name/brand of the backsplash and the name of the granite? we are re-doing a kitchen and that is the look we are going for.

Thank you! The countertop is New Venetian Gold. I don't know who the manufacturer of the tile is. I can ask our sales guy if he knows and I will post it for ya. The color is Durango but I think that color is pretty universal. When I originally posted my annoyance about this issue, a lot of girls (at least in my local area) posted their backsplashes with the same tile and it was the durango color as well.

Thank you! this is the first set up where H and I have both agreed we really like, so if you don't mind, I'll use your kitchen pic as inspiration
