You definitely should have been consulted on this! If it's only 10 minutes away, can you just stop by a few times to let the dog out instead of staying there the whole time?

You definitely have a right to be annoyed. Decisions like that need to be talked about before committing to something like that. And it sucks that they wouldn't ask the other brother, just because he has kids.

Yes and no. They have a very old dog (13 years) and if he is still alive at Christmas, we will have to stay there to make sure he is okay and give him his medicine. But my H also doesn't want the dogs to be by themselves at night. I'm tempted to just send him there to stay the night and take care of them.
I would definitely do that if I wasn't feeling up to staying there.
