My H and I have been TTC for 13 months. I'm 28. I'm not sure if I should be concerned/ask a doctor about this? Admittedly, I don't really chart, I just kind of shoot for when I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating. I know I am underweight and stressed out all the time, so that could have something to do with it. Until now I took a really laid-back approach, but I don't know if I should be concerned or not.
Personally, I would be concerned if it were me. I would chart your next cycle and make an appointment with your doctor to discuss what's going on. Have you used OPKs? I would also start doing that.
Are your cycles regular? I would start tracking with OPKs or temping to determine when you're actually ovulating. My doctor wanted 3 months of tracking before discussing any other steps. I would call to make an appointment with your doc if you're getting concerned- my doctors office has a small packet of information for people who make pre-ttc appointments and it has a lot of good info and resources. Good luck!
"They" say the average time for a healthy couple to conceive is 12 months. I'm not sure I'd use the word concerned, but I'd be curious if something was wrong after that long. Charting and OPKs can really help you identify when you actually O so you can start there to tell if your timing is good or not.
Actually the average time is about 3-4 months. But it can take a year even with no reproductive issues.
I would start with charting for a couple months and see if it is something as simple as missing your fertile window. Don't waste your time with a PCP/GP with this unless you need a referral to other doctors for insurance purposes- with rare exceptions, a GP isn't going to have even the slightest clue on anything fertility related. They definitely don't have any business running any kind of test. They aren't qualified to interpret the results and apply any kind of treatment.
Unless your stress level is so severe that it is causing other issues and you are not cycling at all, it is not at all impairing your fertility.
Thanks all for your replies. My H and I talked it over and decided not to see a doc about this just yet. I plan to get some OPK's this weekend and start charting.
My cycles seem to vary in length between 30-38 days, so I'm not sure if that's really "regular" or not.

if you haven't, i also HIGHLY recommend "taking charge of your fertility". it will answer a lot of your questions about what's normal and what's not. plus, any information is good information!

It sounds like a good idea to get checked out. Since you're underweight, have you had your thyroid checked at all to see if that is contributing? It can affect your fertility. I agree with PP's that it would also be good to start charting and using OPKs to see what's happening with your cycle.
