Is he in private school? I thought public school was supposed to be free.
My kids are in private school, but our public school district has to supply them with books and transportation (if school is more than I think 2 miles away from our house).
When I was in high school, and possibly middle school, my parents had to pay a fee for my textbooks. Not in elementary though, and we don't pay anything now for our kids.

That's insane. The k-12 people were trying to peddle their books to us in our neighborhood (if t=it's the same advantage people) and we shooed them away. Sounds like your school doesn't have their own curriculum so they charge you to use a service or something.

It's the whole state, I believe. I graduated down near Indy and we had rentals there, too. It was $300+in HS.
They are textbooks... most get used 4-6 years. We paid to rent them in HS but if you damaged it you had to pay money, too.
I don't know WTF is wrong with Indiana. lol
Because they don't want to spend any money on education, and actually they want to cut funding to schools.

I know. It's true. I don't mind paying it. We've made several donations to the school in the form of school supplies and items from the fall festival etc. this year. Its just sad they have to charge because the state keeps slashing education spending.
When Purdue decided Mitch Daniel was going to be their new president, rage ensued...seriously, you want a guy, who when he was governor, wanted to cut the education budget to nothing, and increase tuition (and also freeze the pay of the faculty)? really??
This is crazy. I never knew that a public school charged for books! What do they do for families that can't afford the books? Do they get income-based assistance for them?

That's an Indiana thing. I seriously wonder why taxpayers there put up with this nonsense.
Not a thing in other places. In fact the private schools DS attended in PA and NJ got books from the local school districts the students would have attended.
