Do you always take your kid to the doctor for a potential ear infection? DD (almost 8 months) has been rubbing one of her ears a lot; she also feels warm to the touch, but not enough to be an actual fever (the highest her temp has been is 99). I'm assuming she has an ear infection, but she doesn't seem bothered by it. She's never had an EI before, so I don't know the protocol. Is there any pressing reason to take her in?
How many oz of purees does your 6/7 month old eat? Do I just feed him until he stops eating? We just started a couple weeks ago, and he's only eating "dinner" right now, but we'll start adding another meal in soon.

I would call the pedi. We haven't been in this position, but don't they usually prescribe antibiotics of EI's or do they go away on their own?
When did your kid learn to use a spoon? DS will not let me feed him. He eats rice with his hands and 3/4 of it winds up on the floor. Tantrum ensues if I attempt to put a spoon near his mouth.

DD usually eats 6-8 oz a day, spread out between two meals. She's eaten that pretty much since we started feeding her purees. I just feed her until she stops seeming interested.
DS1 started blowing his own nose around 4yo. DS2 started around 3yo. DS3 has been blowing his own nose (and doing it well) since about 14 months. Our kids always wear socks in the winter. It's cold here. Most EI's are viral, which don't respond to antibiotics anyway. We've never taken them in for EI symptoms without a fever unless they are otherwise acting unwell (lethargic, etc.). However, once they get a fever we always take them in.

We went in a few times because we weren't sure. (Maybe 2 or 3?) No EI. I just called and talked to the nurse and said she was pulling her ears and screaming, and I wasn't sure if it was teeth or ears (one time I know she also had a fever) and they told me to come in for a quick check. The pediatrician said they don't mind one bit, because when babies can't talk yet, there is no way to tell if it's ears or something else without an otoscope.
Is anyone here left handed? Dd1 is, but I'm right handed. How do you tie your shoes? Which hand do you hold the loop with? I'm trying to teach her the way i do it and it's not working. I wonder if its backward to her.
Haha, I feel for you, because DH and I are both left-handed, and we wonder what we'll do if DS is right-handed! For exactly reasons like these.
I hold the first loop with my right hand, but I'm not sure how much handedness comes into play there. Maybe look up the TED talk on YouTube on tying shoes. I just do it that way now.
I always put socks on DD when it's cold, she almost always takes them off.
I always gave dd a spoon to hold while I was feeding her and she would sometimes try to feed herself, she eventually got the hang of it. I found it easier and cleaner to feed her when her hands were busy with the spoon.

I just let her tell me when she's had enough. I've never measured.
CIO people - do your kids still cry after you've "trained?" DS usually screams for 10 minutes a night (LOUDly). Going in makes it 14437996432368 times worse so we don't do that.
Yep. 10 min is generally our max. If she's still carrying on past that, we give up and try again later, based on past experiences.
Is it normal for a 2 month old EBF baby to go 48+ hours without a bowel movement?
L's last BM was Monday night. I called the Peds yesterday and the nurse said try the exercises, massage, warm bath and rectal stimulation. We did the exercise, massage and warm bath. Not the rectal stimulation though.
He has always had at least one normally two BM's a day.

Ooh, a question I can answer! Yea, it's perfectly fine. When I asked our pedi about BM frequency, she said "ten in one day to one in ten days." Haha. M has been near both ends of that spectrum. When he went five days without pooping, though, the next one was a blowout!

Oh man we've gone up to 12 days . She definitely getting uncomfortable at that point. Don't get how a breast fed baby could be constipated.

At our 1 month check last week the doctor said that our EBF baby could go 10 days without a BM during a growth spurt. She said that it's all being absorbed by the body for growth. At this point we're still getting poop nonstop....
L has super chapped cheeks from drooling at night. What can I put on them? I hesitate to use medicine of any kind because her hands are always on her face and then in her mouth...

We can trade kids for they day when it comes time to tie shoes and other things. We think C is going to be left handed. Is G grabbing with his right hand?

I'm going through this too.
Does your DD have a runny nose or cold? If yes, then I lean more toward EI and would take her to the doc if it really seems to bother her. If no, then I've been told teething can cause ear pain and that low grade fever tells me it's more teething than infection.
I'm paranoid about DS having an EI because he had one about a month ago that needed two rounds of antibiotics. And I think my DS has been rubbing his ear because it's fun to play with...

DS just started eating solids a few weeks ago. I was having them give him one jar of a veggie or fruit at daycare, but this week I upped him to two. They won't force him if he doesn't feel like finishing one. So 6-7 oz by the end of the day. So far so good.
Thanks rbpohmygoodnessjamer for reassuring me that this is normal. I feel like I am on poop watch, ever time we change him, it's like did he poop?! Lol.
How do formula checks work? Can I use more than 1 per container? How does the cashier take the $5 off? There is no barcode. I am totally confused.
What thebreakfastclub said, plus, it depends. Technically you're only supposed to use one per transaction, but most stores will let you use one per container, and some will just let you use as many as you want. They're also technically supposed to make sure the checks are written out to you, but they almost never verify that. Still, make sure all the checks you use in one trip are from the same person at least. And yeah, it's processed like a check payment.
I think the reason that they're checks instead of coupons is that they used to get mailed back to the mfgr. This let them know who was buying their formula, and where they were buying it, before the internet and rewards cards and stuff.

Hmmm, teething could be a possibility. She doesn't have a runny nose, but she has been coughing more than usual, but that could be just because of extra drool. And she has started biting while nursing again, like when she was teething before (side note: OMG does that hurt more now that she has teeth!). Hopefully that's all it is.
ETA: You are very wise, Birdie. I finally got DD to open her mouth wide enough for me to look, and tooth #3 is on its way in. So hopefully all the ear rubbing (and biting) will be over soon.
