But I want all my money now! I'd rather everything be even rather than waiting for a few windfalls along the way.
And I feel bad for the lower paid employees with really tight budgets - the smaller paychecks in the 2-check months could make things really tight for them.

It's not so bad, although I would prefer twice monthly. The hardest thing is switching from one to the other. You're right though, it will be harder on the lower paid employees.
I love it. I budget without the extra checks and when I get them, it feels like a bonus. August was awesome for us because of this. (DH gets paid weekly and got an extra check too)
I get paid bi-weekly and like that I can (ok I try to) budget monthly expenses out of my 2 checks and then the 2 additional checks can go to one time things that I pay annually, like theatre tickets.

Yeah, we use my extra checks for semi-annual expenses: car insurance, our neighborhood's assessment fee, etc.

I don't mind it, although it was annoying at first because DH gets paid twice a month so it took a few months to figure out how to budget and the best way/time to pay bills.
I've been paid monthly for so many years now that I cannot imagine going back to twice monthly. I love having all of our money up front. It makes planning all of our fixed expenses for the month and bill paying much easier and less time consuming. I do recall it was a huge adjustment at first, though.
My H and I are both on bi weekly but opposite weeks which is nice because we end up with 4 months of "bonus" checks. We just budget for 4 pay checks a month then use the extras to either fluff our checking account or stash for a vacation.
The thing is, I already get two types of bonuses (both annual, paid in separate months) so I'd rather the rest of my pay be steady. I like to budget my savings (rather than just save extra checks or whatever is left over) and it's so much easier to do when you can easily forecast what's coming through.
