Sorry I didn't say anything earlier, I didn't want to say anything in case I didn't get it. But also, let me preface this post by saying that I'm not unhappy with my current job, I'm just seeing that there's no room for growth here.
Anyway, so about 2 week ago on a total and complete whim I applied for a job. I found out this morning that I got it. It's a step up from where I am now in terms of responsibility and I would have to manage a team. I would get to go back to doing events (which I love) and marketing (I'm just doing marketing now), so that would be good.
The commute is literally half of the time that I'm spending now, it would involve 10-11 work trips (with 6-8 of them being overseas) a year, after I pass my probationary period (something totally standard here) I would get a guaranteed 33% pay increase. In the interim it's still a good pay bump, just not 33%.
And, another bonus is that I can wear jeans to work again.
I wouldn't have an easy transfer back to Seattle, but the skills that I would learn at this job would make me more marketable once we come home.
H thinks I should take it because I've been working hard to get to this point and now I have the opportunity, and my head is saying that this job is a no brainer, but however, in the pit of my stomach I have this feeling that I'm going to fail. You guys, I'm terrified of failing at this job. I think it would be an easier decision if I didn't like my job, but I do.

No question, take it! Sounds like the almost perfect opportunity!
Believe me I totally get becoming complacent in a job that's "good enough" (not calling you complacent but I was definitely so). And I understand being nervous about a new job that will push you more. But the company obviously believes in you, so you should too.

I want to add that before I took my new job offer I had a very similar conversation with a friend who had recently left her long term job(where she was just coasting) for something new and challenging. She gave me the same advice. As long as the company culture is a good fit, I really think this is a situation you rarely regret.
Do you like the people you would work with? I think that is the biggest determinant of job happiness. If you think you would, then I would definitely take it. Clearly they think you can handle the job... You should believe that you can handle it too! Congratulations!

I haven't met the team, but from the sounds of it I would like them. I've only met my would be manager.
Yep, I'd take it if I were in your situation. And don't think of it as potential for failing, think of the ability to be challenged. I personally prefer a position that has a challenge to it.
Same amount of vacation? If yes and you like the people this is a no-brainer. You can put your entire raise toward travel and really try to do even more while there! Do I hear strains of The Lion Ling playing in the background for you now, UW?
Yep same amount of vacation as now, but there's a chance there could be "more" because if I have to work/travel on the weekends then I'd get to take my "weekend" days at a different time.
LOL. I'm still desperately trying to find a way to make a safari work next year, but now that H knows that Sao Paulo and Macau are on the table he's excited for that too.
Take it! If it doesn't work out you can just find a new job, and it sounds like you are good at what you do so that wouldn't be much of an issue. Congratulations!
It makes complete sense to take the job in my opinion. I think you would be a great manager and while I can understand your fear of failing, I think once your in the job you will feel more confident in your skills. I recently let an opportunity to take a step up the ladder pass me by because of fear of failrue and I don't want you to make that same mistake. You will totally rock it.

Do it. Both the job and the safari. I bet you wouldn't regret either one.
When are you planning to come back stateside? Have you been there almost two years already? Or am I making that up?
We don't have any immediate plans to move back, but we will at some point.
We've been here just over a year and a half now, 2 years in March. It's really crazy how time flies.
