Soooooo...she had a low grade fever when she boarded the plane. I am allowing myself to be a little mad at her now.
She was below the threshold to be considered symptomatic.
"The nurse, who has been identified by family as Amber Joy Vinson, had a low-grade fever of 99 degrees while on a Frontier flight from Dallas to Cleveland on Oct. 13th, which is below the threshold of 100.5 degrees which may indicate that a patient is contagious or becoming ill with Ebola, Friedan said."
Also, if I'm either of these nurses, I'm pissed that my name is public. ill with Ebola, Frieden said.
I read that. Still a little mad.
Her family released her name. I'm wondering if she didn't mind the release.

I wouldn't have considered 99°F a fever at all. Normal human body temperature range is 97.02–99.68 °F.
But you also were not a nurse for an Ebola patient that recently died. Who should have only been traveling by controlled movement. I don't know...I guess I just think...if you are that nurse you would be second guessing whether you should be getting on the airplane.

I agree she messed up. She knew she was not supposed to travel and she did.

Yeah I'd think that if you had recently treated someone with Ebola, you'd be SUPER DUPER CAREFUL about everything and err on the side of caution for a few weeks.

Question- are the temperatures self-reported? Not trying to be all TIN FOIL !!!!1111!!!! But I feel like flying when told not to was a really bad decision on her part.

There was talk about charging the first guy with some sort of a crime for traveling when he knew he was exposed. I think we even talked about it here.
The temperature seems irrelevant. She was told not to fly and did anyway. Boo on you lady!
But I just don't think this will lead to other cases if she wasn't symptomatic and it sound like she wasn't.
Yes. The low grade fever actually makes me feel "better" about transmission on the flight...however the fact that people are ignoring recommended protocol is making me a little nervous for what's to come.

Well, they say that once the fever does hit, you are contagious. If she is dumb enough to fly, can we trust that she didn't have a fever for a day or so?
Does 99.whatever = a fever under the eyes of Ebola?

I would think that once your body produces a fever, it has enough virus to produce an immune response, thus enough virus to shed via stated methods. So yeah, an actual fever (100+) does make a difference in Ebola becoming contagious.
I hope this becomes more clear. My local proboard is losing their shit with this and firmly believe there were never any protocols put out by the CDC.
Completely untrue. I have been involved in meetings at my hospital for almost 3 months and we always had CDC guidelines.
I have seen the CDC guidelines. But these are the same group of women screaming "close the borders," and that Duncan came here for the sole reason of receiving treatment, so to say I put little stock in their opinions is putting it mildly.
Ok so it looks like it tells you to completely cover up. What on earth happened here then? Were they not covered up when he was there the first time around? Is the hospital not protecting it's workers properly? Why did they have skin exposed?

I read elsewhere that the suits are all one size and this does not account for people who are much smaller (like the first nurse who appears to be pretty tiny from the pics) or much bigger.

GIRL!! Wouldn't you be using that tape or something to make it fit? They got hazmat suits on Ebay? I would be buying one.
