Now that we are talking money how much do you pay (rent or mortgage) for where you currently live? How many bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage is it?
We pay ~$1,650 for our 4 bd, 2bth home. It is approx 2200sq ft. (ETA- this is our mortgage plus tax payments.)
(We recently did some renos so that we could live on the top floor of the house ~1100sq ft, 2bd, 1bth, and we could rent the basement out 2bd, 1bath, 1100sq ft out for $1,200/month)
$830 for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. It's about 950 sq ft I think? It's in a "nicer" building.. our old place was 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and was $600 but a really terrible building. I live in a fairly LCOL area though so this is on the higher end for apartments here.
MrsMB- I love having the rental income downstairs, we never used the space anyways, so why not. Hopefully the renters that are in there now stay for a while and it will be even easier.
We wanted a rancher when we bought but those are not common here. An apartment here though is only ~$200-300 a month cheaper so we went with the more house, as the dog needs backyard space, lol. Pups are expensive
2 bedroom, 2 full bathrooms, all amenities included, cable/internet, no dishwasher or laundry in apartment, but is in building down the hall. (not sure on sq footage it's not huge) $750.00 a month!
Will DD so PDQ. $xxxx for a one-bedroom, 700 square foot apartment with no dishwasher or washing machine and a retro pink bathroom in a third-floor walk up. Living the dream! We have a pretty good deal for where we are, though, and we have lots of light/closet space and an eat-in kitchen.
We put a significant chunk of money down when we bought (50% down payment) so our mortgage is only $700/month. Property take is another $450/month. Our house is 2200 sq ft, 5 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath.
Our previous home (condo) was 1100 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath and was costing us about $2200 per month (mortgage, property tax, and HOA fees). Both homes were bought at the exact same price. COL was much higher where we used to live but we are still considered HCOL compared to the rest of the country (very low for So Cal though).
Mortgage/house payment is 2700 for 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1500 sq feet, .33 acres (selling house this month)- this amount includes property taxes, which are extremely high in my area
New apartment is just under 2100 for 1 bedroom 1 bath plus loft/bonus area, 1150 square feet, plus 1 car garage. Rent would have been a lot less, but the garage added like 150, plus 100 of the amount listed is an extra fee because of our 2 dogs. Apartment complex has some nice amenities like a pool and fitness center.
I am jealous of many of you in lower COL areas! I know I would get paid less for my exact job in a LCOL area, but many of you pay less than half of what we did for a mortgage, and im sure I wouldn't get paid less than half of what I get now! I so want to move. I grew up in a LCOL area so I still experience sticker shock over housing prices.
$1200/month for mortgage+insurance 2700sf, 3 beds, 3.5 baths, no HOA
It was a short sale, we got it for $69,000 less than the previous owners bought it for. Low cost of living area, but a great neighborhood for what we paid.
I pay $660 a month for our mortgage. It's more though than the actual payment which is $624. We bought our house almost 3 years ago for $105,000. It is 3 bedrooms 1 bath ranch 1200 Sq Ft. I live in midwest illinois in a town of 20,000
We pay $1,700 (incl taxes) for the 3BR/2.5 bath we own and rent out (rent covers $1,500 of that) and then we pay $1,780 to rent a 3/2 house in an area much closer to work and family. It sounds dumb to be paying $280 more than we used to, but we cut over $300 in gas costs so it's a wash.
Reading these, I think it is clear I need to move. Because when we buy the 4/2 we are hoping for, it will be more like $2,100/month, which makes me want to cry. Who has a place to recommend for me?

House pricing is not too bed here but I guess gas prices are, so don't move here. Lol
