I doubt you are holding her back. I bet you will finish closer to that time then you think. Plus, it usually helps everyone get faster to have a partner, even if you're a little different paces.
At first glance I thought she'd run 2:27, and I did a double take. If that was the case then you might be holding her back!
I always find it interesting to see how people who train together, perform at various times. I always say this to DH, because I'll run with him, but he's not working as hard as I am, even though we are at the same pace. The same thing recently happend to him, with another guy we run with. They usually run bridges together, and it's usually in the 7:40's for 9 miles. We didn't run this week, and this guy did 10 miles of bridges at a 6:34 pace! DH was all...."I knew he was faster, but ummmmm..." LOL I told him now he knows how I feel.
Either way, I think it says strong things about your running & BQ attempt. It's hugely beneficial to have strong training partners.
ETA: I seriously doubt you've been holding her back. People don't know what they are capable of until they've raced the distance. Plus, she's probably one of those freak people who goes a minute or more faster on race day. LOL

Good for her!
Strange and sometimes amazing things can happen on race day. Two people in my running group who train together at the same pace both ran marathons last weekend. One finished in 4 hours and the other finished in 3:36. I was amazed. I hope someone sprinkles some of that magic fairy dust on me.

This was me and my old training partner! 3 marathons ago, she ran a 4:06 & I ran a 3:46. Our PRs are now 3:57 & 3:34. She can still hang with me on most training runs, though. It's so weird! On the flip side, same thing with me & DH. We ran one race together at the same pace and I've been staring at his back ever since. The gap keeps growing. Nothing makes sense! LOL

More than anything, I think this reminds me again how mental running is and the need to work on believing and staying mentally focused. I'm guessing you clseale and the faster person in Wines example are better at getting more from yourself and quieting your brain when it tells you to back off. Your partners are probably almost as fast physically, but their brains don't cooperate as well. Certainly they could also have bad luck on race day with stomach distress, an injury flare-up, being sick, etc. So many things have to come together, but the right "head space" is definitely one of them.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

This is so true. My husband is a mental wreck when it comes to actually running the marathon. Physically he should have a much faster marathon, but he can't seem to mentally pull it all together. Physically he is there, so the only thing I see holding him back is the mental mind fvck of the marathon.

He's running MCM, correct? Or did he pick a different fall race? Another BQ attempt? Crossing my fingers (almost as much for you, as for him lol), that he gets that BQ AND that he gets it by 5 min or more. I wish calmness for your home.

He is doing a small local race three weeks after MCM. On paper it looks like a good race for a BQ attempt, it is where he does almsot all of his long runs and he won't have to account for the tangents. Thanks for sending the calming wishes to my home, so far things are pretty calm, but who knows what will happen once he enters the taper.
