So our cat peed on our couch while we were OOT awhile back and we have been trying to get it out. He did it again on the other side of the couch on Wednesday night. We are working with the vet (please cross your fingers he is ok, he is my baby!) to get him to stop and see if anything is wrong but I cannot get the smell out of the couch.
My mom suggested getting it professionally cleaned but it looks like that is ~$200. We have tried everything we can find inline at home but I think it got into the foam, so I feel like it is hopeless. I hate that our house smells like cat pee and actually refuse to have anyone over right now.
Our other option would be buying another couch but he could do it again and ruin the brand new couch too.

I wouldn't get a new couch yet, until you've figured out if there's a problem, but ultimately I would because there's no other way to really get rid of it IMO.
We've dealt more with spraying (which is different in the sense that I would think it's more linked to behavior problem), which it sounds like if you said it also was on the back? In any case, because of spraying and other behavior problems we now put the boy cat on anxiety meds and it's been amazing. Completely stopped spraying and is much better with strangers and the other cat. So if it isn't something like an infection, I would ask about that too!

I think your best bet is to figure out the problem and then get a new couch. This happened to us but we watched him do it so we're able to stop it and soak up before it got into the foam and then had it professionally cleaned
Our dog had a peeing issue and the only thing that worked was spraying vinegar and then dumping baking soda on it. Once the baking soda dried I would vacuum it up and put more baking soda on it. Could you slip cover the couch to add a layer of protection until you figure out the problem?
We are working with the vet to try to fix it and hoping it is behavioral. We are going to go back and get his blood sugar checked because it was high, but the vet thought it might have been stress related. He said to come back in a couple months unless I am more concerned.
If we can't get him to stop with a few modifications we will put him on Fluoxetine and see if that helps.
Thanks for the advice. I am so frustrated and worried too, so I appreciate you all listening

yeah, this is basically the only thing that helped for us. It sucks because you have to give it every day, but it's made such a big difference it's so worth it (if nothing else works for you).
I'm hoping it's not diabetes or something bad. I am such a crazy cat lady that. I'm sure but I will find whatever is going on, even if it means my cat is just an asshole
I hope it ends up being something minor or some strange short-termed anxiety <3 I would be ticked about the couch but simultaneously also worried to death about the kitteh.
