I stick to second-run theaters because around here they serve beer, some of these may have been technically summer:
The One You Love - I don't want to give anything away - it was well-acted and an intriguing plot, but not one that I was thinking about days later. Same brothers who did Safety Not Guaranteed, which was better but rougher around the edges.
Obvious Child - very funny rom-com about accidental pregnancy and termination. Has anyone else seen it? I keep meaning to ask. It some ways it was very CEP, but in a way that feels secondary to the plot and characters.
Begin Again - Like Once, but with well-known actors and no breakout song. The first ten minutes seriously jeopardized my Mark Ruffalo crush, but it came around. Mr Mouse really liked the resolution.
The Skeleton Twins - very good. Well-acted, bittersweet story. Some seriously funny moments too. Probably stuck with me the most of anything I've seen lately.
I'd like to see Gone Girl. I'm also excited about the Imitation Game (my husband is a mathematician, so he wants to see it too), and I've heard good things about Love is Strange and Foxcatcher. I'm excited for Unbroken, too.
I saw Boyhood a few months ago. It was good. Some flaws, but I liked it.
I saw Pride last night, a predictable feel-good flick at its core. Very fun, though. A bit like 100 Foot Journey in that respect.
Saw Boyhood; it was good but didn't live up to its hype. I had the same issue with Silver Linings Playbook.
I plan to see Skeleton Twins and Gone Girl this week sometime. And I'm looking forward to Birdman. Dh wants to see Woody Allen's new picture; not planning to. Aside from his personal transgressions, it's the same pap he's been offering up for years. He's stuck in 1972.

Reviving this thread because I saw Interstellar tonight and my mind is blown. By the visuals, the concepts, and the acting. I kind of geek out at space stuff, so I was agape for most of it.
Nightcrawler was also very good. Pretty trippy stuff and really dark. Jake Gyllenhaal was awesome.
I had wanted to see the Stephen hawking movie - Theory of Everything I think it is called? I haven't heard much about it - it looks like it came out this past weekend.

I really want to see this too.
We saw Big Hero 6 this past weekend. Loved it! it had strong female characters who weren't overly girly or sexualized, so thumbs up to that.
Omg. This reminds me. I can go see movies by myself on Tuesdays and Thursdays now!!!!! I'm totally going to go see all the Oscar contenders for the first time in my life.
I will just need to hide this plan from my H because he will be jealous.
We haven't see Big Hero 6 but we will this week or next. Jackson is excited about it.

I thought Interstellar was pretty good but too long, I don't think I'd be interested to see it again. All the "it blew my mind!" reminds me of the obsession with Inception, I didn't feel that way about either movie. I did appreciate seeing it in 35mm though
I thought Gone Girl was great. We want to see Birdman if we can make it to one of the limited show times, and I'm really looking forward to the Imitation Game.
