We had issues with spitting up and some formulas were worse than others. We ended up getting the Sam's club brand version of Similac Sensitive. We could order online (wasn't sold in stores) with no tax, no shipping, and buy multiples at a time and have them delivered within a few days.
Yeah I was planning on giving it another couple of weeks to be sure. Mostly moot now, though, as he's stopped latching and I've never been able to get much at all from pumping. I'm going to work on reestablishing a good latch and/or improving pumping output, but I only have maybe 3 feedings' worth frozen, so I will definitely need formula at least for the immediate future.
Don't worry if the pumping and nursing don't pan out. Seriously, don't give it another thought.
Sometimes, even when we try our very best, we just don't produce enough, and that's ok.
No amount of looking at photos or listening to recorded coos or ingesting weirdo tea or gobbling special cookies worked for me.
ETA: we went the enfamil route. And, I hated the premixed stuff. It stained like a mofo. Just get the powder, mix at home, and save yourself the laundry.
Totally agree re the staining that ready-to-feed formula (in any brand).
I do love the convenience, though, so it's all we use when traveling or simply when we are out of the house (especially Similac, because the tops are the same size as any regular nipple, so you can just screw on a nipple).
If you are all for convenience and don't want the stains, FastHands, color-safe bleach takes it all out. You don't even need to pre-treat. Just pour into your wash.
They're all basically fine to get your kid fed. I liked Gerber Good Start Gentle the best; it's expensive but you can find good deals on Amazon.
Also, have you tried renting a hospital pump? I got so much more from one of those babies; my output was terrible with the regular Medela. Often insurance covers it.
We had reflux and milk allergy issues. Started with reg enfamil then gentlease then Goodstart which gave him horrible smelling poops. We ended up with Nutramigen which our pedi gave a prescription for and that made a world of difference.
Thank you all for the suggestions and the support, too. I was down (and hormonal, lol) last night, but I'm feeling much more rational about it all today.

Hang in there.
Many of us were similarly situated.
And, FWIW, I also used a hospital-grade pump.
I tried everything. I really did. And I got so frustrated when other people would be like, "Well, did you do this? And this? Or this?"
YES, I FUCKING TRIED, AND IT JUST DIDN'T WORK, OK? I'M NOT AN IDIOT.

Don't stress yourself out. Formula is great!
Thank you for this advice. This is basically what I have been telling myself and preparing for, because I don't know if breastfeeding/pumping will work, or really if I will like it enough to stick with it. But, I am worried that once the baby is here I will get not breezy about it and just stress myself out. (obviously not what I want to do) I've already had people give me advice and my baby isn't due for another couple of months. So, I just have to keep reminding myself that it will be ok as long as the baby is fed and maybe I'll have to think "What would Miso do?".
