I finally got a decent sized crockpot, yay! Has anyone done a whole chicken? Tips, advice, warnings? I'm thinking I can put it in with some lemon and garlic, but I don't know how long or if it's even a good idea. Thanks!
When I do a whole chicken, I just throw it in there on top of a couple of onions cut in half and leave it all day.
But I don't do a whole chicken to eat like a roast chicken out of the oven. I do it when I want easily shredded chicken to use in other things all week. But lately I've been using chicken breasts instead so I don't have to peel the slimy skin off. Crockpots do NOT make good chicken skin lol
I have read that you can put it on a ring of aluminum foil to get a crispy skin. I've never tried it though

I have done a whole chicken and it turns out pretty well. I followed a recipe from Tammy's recipe. I put garlic powder, lawrys, lemon pepper, on the outside and then cook for 8 ish hours. It turns out pretty good. I do like it better in the oven though.

I cook it in the crock pot and then put it under the broiler in the oven for a few minutes if I want the skin to get crispy and yummy. Otherwise, just put the whole chicken in the crockpot, cover with whatever herbs you want and let it sit all day.
