I had to have the paraguard and mirena both removed. The paraguard was a nightmare, I almost had to go to the ER I thought I was going to die from all the bleeding and pain
That was me this weekend. Are you on anything now?

I'm back on BCP. I wanted to do the IUD bc I didn't want hormones but the hormone level on these pills is very low (Lo-loestrin)
When I had a provera induced period a few months ago, I walked into the grocery store after work, I was wearing a skirt, I all of a sudden felt something running down my leg, yeah I was mortified. I hightailed it out of that store so fast.
Thanks for all of the horror stories. You have no idea how good it makes me feel. I called my SIL to commiserate (my mom hasn't had her period since she was my age so she can't really relate) and she shared in my misery too.
I had something similar happen. I won't get too into details, I'll just say that it included my all-white Navy uniform, my IUD, and a final exam in the Navy class I had been going to. I ended up having to go home, wash my uniform pants, and go back to school to finish my exam. I was gone for a couple of hours. BUT, I did learn that any time you start a conversation with your male boss with the words, "I'm having a problem with my period..." you usually don't have to say any more, because they don't want to hear any details about your period.

Hope the wine and puppies helped you feel better.
Oh no! Part of the problem was just having no one to talk to at work. It's a new job and my bosses are nice but we're not close like that. If I ended up leaving I think I would have first talked to one of the investors with whom I've gotten close and was working at the office but it's a delicate balance of being honest since you're new and not telling TMI at work. Sigh...today is a better day and I'm wearing black leggings
mcc, is there a medical reason you don't want to use hormonal BC? Or just a personal preference?
It took my body forever to regulate after being on BCP for 10 years and I don't want to do that again. I also just like being difficult
No, I get it. After having cancer, I get kind of squicked out by what I put in my body.
FWIW, I've had both Mirena and Paraguard. My experience with Paraguard isn't "normal" because the tamoxifen suppresses my hormones, which makes my periods super light. My obgyn did warn me, though, that a lot of women bleed WAY heavier than normal. I *think* (but don't hold me to this) that Mirena has lower hormones than most BCPs, but you want want to ask your doc. I liked Mirena a lot and my periods actually went away, although I know a lot of people don't like this.
ughhh.. that is awful. I hope the wine was helpful. My periods pre-Mirena were absolutely awful, painful and it felt as though I was being bludgeoned to death. I have had Mirena for over a year now, my periods are longer but the flow is very light. I had an ultra sound done last month because the strings were MIA - all is good and the placement is fine. As for paraguard, I have friends that decided to go with that and their periods are MUCH heavier and longer than pre-paraguard - which is why I decided to go the Mirena route. If my shit doesn't get better by year two, Mirena will be out and more than likely a hysterectomy will be done.

I had a horrible experience just last month. On a regular basis, my period is every other month or so, so when mine came two months in a row, I was unprepared and didn't have any tampons or anything. I was wearing jeans and was in a meeting and I could feel it happening, but by that time, it was too late. I bled through the jeans! I ran into the bathroom, trying to avoid having anyone behind me and got a shitton of toilet paper and high tailed it to the grocery store. I didn't have a sweater or anything to cover up, though. It was so embarrassing! I'm 33, one would think I could get a handle on it by now. I ended up using a lot of peroxide and taking a shower when I went home for lunch. I got back to work and people were like, "did you change clothes?" And I said that I sweat a lot that morning, and my clothes smelled like BO, and I wanted to change. LOL!
It's funny that I would rather tell people that I reek so badly that I couldn't stand myself and needed to shower and change; than to say I that I was unprepared and started my period.

I have the Paraguard and it took me a while to get used to it. I do bleed heavily and I know that on day 2-3, I need to change my tampons VERY often. I actually had an accident last month but it wasn't that terrible.
Ugh, that's the worst. I hope you are feeling better now. I had to change pants mid-day once and all the guys I work with automatically assumed I had shit myself...period blood never even crossed their minds.
